My Wife got an offer for a Major Job in DC near Bolling AFB.. I can start over where ever with what I do.. The thing is we are DC Clueless, My wife lived there as a girl when her dad was stationed at the pentagon.. We know the landmarks but that's about it.. First thing first where is best place to live outside DC with good riding roads *Seriously though, we are pretty sure we don't want to live in DC, We'd probably rent for a while until we got the lay of the land.. Any insight on areas outside DC would be really appreciated... Thanks Ted... |

Ted - an early welcome to the DC area I grew up in Northern Virginia, and now live in MD. I'm 40 miles (ish) from the beltway, I can get there if I need to in a reasonable amount of time, but the madness isn't in my neighborhood. Yet. It's coming, though.... I'd have to say, anywhere west or north of town is good for riding. East and south are still quite urban, but if you get out our way you get towards the mountains, away from the congestion... I'd check, MD and VA have vastly differing tax bases, but either (or WV, or even PA - it's only 15 minutes north of me) are all good options. |

Hey man. I grew up in the burbs outside of D.C.., and I'm greek to haha I saw your name. Come to Maryland, not Virginia. Plenty of good roads and nice places to live. Poolesville is where I grew up, rural and small but plenty of good roads to get to the bigger places and plenty of rural areas around to ride. Rockville, Germantown, Bethesda, Potomac and Damascus are good places to live as well. |

Yeah, if you want 5 ac., MD is the way to go. You'd be spending a LOT on 5 ac. in VA... We just bought 44 ac in Sabillasville, no structure, but pre-existing well/septic/power to the property, for less than the price of 1/4 acre in NoVa. Now, we just need the mythical bag of money to fall out of the sky, so we can build |

Harper's Ferry/Ranson/Charles Town area in WV was fun while we lived there ~3 yrs. ago. Beautiful scenery, plus there is a train station in Ranson that runs daily to D.C. Union Station (when the snow gets too bad to drive). I worked in Arlington then. Daily commute time while driving was ~40 mins to 3+ hrs. one way depending on time of day, route & traffic. Close to Frederick, MD. so you have Ratbuell on tap at HD/Buell of Frederick. Hwy 9 btwn Charles Town WV and Leesburn VA is a nice ride. |

In April we have Sportfest in Willaimsport I miss every year because of teaching. If you are an MSF instructor get in touch with me and I'll show you how to get MD certified. K |

Frederick is great to, itse becoming a suburb of D.c. although its farther out than montgomery County. TONS of good riding areas around there like P_Sqaured said. Frederick, Boonsboro, Brunswick, all good areas to live/play in. |

In April we have Sportfest in Willaimsport I miss every year because of teaching I have to check to make sure (*still* not back at work...), but I'm 99% that we've got a May date this year. Dunno if that helps or not. Working on a couple other updates, too....stay tuned |
