Where can I get a quicker throttle for my 1125R? | ||

I got one from Active. You can get it from GP Tech. First you will need to measure your throttle cables, then select the closest size that they offer. 900mm will probably be the best fit. You will need to replace your run/stop/start switch. I used one from a 08 CBR600RR. The Active throttle gives you several different cam options. I went with the largest one (#42 if I remember right) and that gives me about 1/6th turn to WFO. Check out GP Techs website. Don't get the slim one, there is too much friction. Questions: Why do we need to replace our run/stop/start switch? And with WFO at 1/6 throttle turn, how much does it affect "regular" throttle openings and riding? | ||

You would only need to replace it if the increased width of the throttle assembly and the stock switch do not allow you to position the brake lever properly. As long as you have good throttle control, the 1/6th turn will not make street riding too sketchy. | ||

How much wider are we talking about? Obviously on the 1125r, a replacement switch is called for? | ||

Yes, you are looking at around 1/2" - 3/4" wide for the throttle. You would need to replace the switch or else the brake lever will hit the throttle and not give you full brake lever travel. | ||

I was told that it was pretty wide. I choose the CBR switch because it was very narrow. | ||

So you went to another vendor to obtain the CBR switch? What king of $$$ are we talking here? I have no idea what a switch of this type might cost. Thanks for your help. | ||

I got the switch at a local shop. I think that I only paid about $20-$25 for it. This was dealer cost, it's probably around $40 retail. It doesn't immediately plug right in, you need to figure out which wire does what, then make a harness adapter and add about 6 inches of wire. It's a pretty fun project, and an easy way to get started with working on wiring. (Message edited by eboos on December 12, 2008) | ||

Here's a shot of the throttle wide open. The shot is pretty bad, but I made some marks at 1/4 turn, and the mark at the throttle sleeve shows how much sooner it is fully open.  Here is another photo of the throttle, switch and brake lever just to get an idea of fitment.  | ||

I don't know if this helps or not, but... I pushed my master cylinder to the left a bit to change the way the brake lever feels. Does this open up enough room so you can retain the stock switch housing when adding an aftermarket quick throttle?  | ||

Took a looksee at the throttle assembly....don't think we can do the ramped plastic piece unfortunately. Our throttle cam is not in a position to add the plastic piece. Hard to explain but it comes out from a protected area as you spin the throttle. Time for plan B. | ||

Eboos...how much extra room do we need exactly to fit this quick throttle on the bar? Looks to me from Eric's pic, we might be able to squeeze it all in w/o changing the switch housing. | ||

It's only a little over a half inch wide I think, but I would just be concerned about the brake lever hitting it under hard braking, or if adjusted for short reach. | ||

It was recommended against to me by GP Tech. None of these switches will simply plug in, you need to figure out what wire does what and make a harness adapter. It really is not hard. | ||

I have to borrow a camera again anyway. If I remember, I will post a photo of the wiring adapter. If this is your first time messing around with wiring, this will be a fun project to get your feet wet with. |
