Due to the fact that gun laws will more than likely be changing in the coming year (we'll not get into that here) I went out and took advantage of the Christmas sales. I feel my Bonus this year went to good use! I picked up a new Savage Arms MARK II-FVXP Bolt Action 22LR rifle combo. It has their accu-trigger that's user adjustable from only 1.5 to 6 pounds. It's an extremely solid gun, and should be highly accurate (as accurate as a 22 can be). Came with a nice 3-9x Bushnell scope and three ten round magazines. I bought it for 50-200 yard target shooting/plinking. It will have a bipod after this weekend. It'll be my lil' baby sniper rifle. I considered the 17 HMR version for about a minute, but the difference in cost ($100 more for the gun and 5x more for the ammo) quickly swayed me back to the 22. The Ruger 10-22 was the biggest competition. But the significantly greater accuracy from the Savage (with the accu-trigger and bolt-action instead of the semi-auto) swayed my decision again, and since the sole purpose of the gun will be target shooting, I went with the higher accuracy. Again the cost helped, The savage was $100 cheaper than a similarly setup Ruger. Retail $289 Sale $179 And finally: Smith and Wesson Sigma 9mm. Another solid gun with good reviews. Biggest complaint is the heavy trigger pull... and after the 1.5 pound rifle trigger pull, this thing's 10 pound pull is pretty ridiculous. But I'm taking that as a good thing (less accident prone) and I'll get used to it. Came with two stainless steel 16 round magazines and factory night sights. It has a four inch stainless barrel and a polymer frame. Retail: $458 Sale: $269 Add to those my existing Winchester 1200 12 ga. shotgun (soon to look similar to this): And I'm pretty happy with my gun collection! (especially since all three totaled just over $500!) I've got a close range plinker, long range plinker, and the clay destroyer! It's supposed to be 50 and sunny this weekend! It's Shootin Time! |

I had a Sigma 40mm for a little while... and got rid of it. The trigger pull even after putting almost 2000 rounds through it was still horrible. One would think with a little break-in time that it would get better. I just purchased a Kimber Grand Raptor II. Outstanding gun, a little on the high side for price. Comes with all the bells and whistles because it's made in Kimber's custom shop. This is what it shot right out of the box from 25ft out. After 1000rds, it's groups have tightened up quite nice! As for everything else that I have, that's for me to know and the person on the wrong end of the barrel breaking into my house to find out!! (Message edited by chadr81 on December 11, 2008) |

My hubby and I are taking our concealed weapons class this Sat. We recently purchased a 9mm and a 380 for me. This will be a new experience for me to go to a shooting range and learn my new gun. I can't wait. Don't have any targets to show yet. Maybe soon. |

I don't have any targets either, maybe after this weekend if we go to an indoor range. And I more than likely will be taking a Concealed carry course within the next few months. |

That must be nice Julie. I go to a pretty big outdoor range about 20 miles from my home. If I get my Ak this Saturday I'm shooting it this Sunday temps are going to be in the high 40's. And I get to shoot a shot gun for the first time. Off topic I reserved a room at Keystone for August. I can hardly wait for that ride! K |

Yea, I'm very much looking forward to going. We're planning on getting up there on either Thurs night or Friday morning. We'll be bringing our RV to stay in but I'm hoping to ride with some ladies up there vs trailering the bikes (my hubby is coming too so he'll drive the RV). There are some beautiful rides out that way. Have you ever been here before? Let me know any maybe we can meet up and ride there together. J |

Here is a long arm I picked up last year. I have not hunted yet but if I do this will be the one I use. I have a Bushnell scope on it they don't make these any more. This is a hi-power rifle.
Its a Winchester Feather weight Model 70/ 280 the ammo is bigger than the AK 30 mm rounds And like Mikef5000 all of my guns are legally mine and I obey the laws and gun safety. K |

Hot Damn that was with a ruger 10-22? How modified is it? And yes Mark, Vances is having a sale! Many of the brands (Smith and Wesson) are offering 50 rebates. They had a large weekly ad in this past Sunday's Dispatch, and a monthly ad on http://www.vancesshooterssupplies.com |

Long guns only, I'm not telling what pistols and pistol variants I have. Hand cannons are for self defense, and I prefer to keep an upper hand with the element of surprise. Never thought of putting a bipod on my optima. Of course I have never missed anything I have shot at with it either from a kneeling, sitting or standing position... Damn Marine Corp training takes all the fun out of Kentucky windage shooting. |
