Fine, I spent 4 years learning Russian, and 14 years using it in service for the military. I am going to refuse to speak English and see how many people I can get to cowtow to me and bend to my 'cultural handicap' Banks, supermarkets, city government, medical providers.... You know you have a good country when you can whine all day and not have the government police break down your door for spreading propaganda and lies. Perestroika ceuchas Komrade. |

M2- very well written, and I agree with everything you said. Having known some of the troubles you have spoken of before, that is all I say on that. What I can't agree with is all the 'catering' that we as US CITIZENS have to do to help those who want to do it 'their' way. Come here, eat, drink, be merry. Get a job, become legal and pay taxes out the A$$ like the rest of us have since we started to work as US CITIZENS. DANG it do it by the laws that our fore fathers set in writing, that is what has made this country so great, up to a point, then it has slowly become something different in the last 20 something years. |

"Origin of the Name Florida - Florida was first seen by the Spanish explorer Ponce de Leon on Palm Sunday on April 2, 1513 - he then named the "Pascua de Florida," meaning "Feast of Flowers" and claimed it for Spain." www.enchantedlearning.com To live in a state with a Spanish name and bitch about the use of the language is one of those oxymorons I just love. But to respect those of other cultures I promise to reduce my use of Spanish in public. I send my regards to all in Miami, 'Feast of Flowers.' |

My concern is the work place other than that It doesn't bother me to much... I speak to my family in Greek... A great deal of my family speak Multiple languages My dad spoke 5... My dad actually took work on a British Merchant ship to Improve his English before coming here in the late 20's... My big issue is foreign language in the work place among coworkers in a normal business.. I think it's very unprofessional unless it is to interact with a customer. Now if maria wants to talk to someone on the phone on break in spanish no biggie.. |

"That is just a stupid comment. Indians were here first, should we all speak their language, or go with America's heritage and speak English. " The name Miami is Native American The name Florida is Spanish. Neither are English. You're right, Heritage! (Message edited by M2nc on December 09, 2008) |

For what its worth, my town is named Mahopac, yet I don't go around speaking the language of the native Indians. Carlos I loved those few big posts you made, very enlightening. |

Why do you think the thing that is the great experiment of America will not pass into history? Surely everyone thought the same of communism and fascism; they would last for a 1000 year reich, or that until every nation is of the same union. Those are both done, (bar a few despots here and there). What makes you think that everything that is uniquely American would not wither and fade, or that it already hasnt started to? In a hundred years, we will not recognize it, no more than our founding fathers would understand where we have come to now. And I doubt English will fare the trip any better. |
