I can ride my motorcycle in HOV lanes, thanks to the AMA. I can ride my bike without a seatbelt, airbags and other government proposed "safety" improvements, thanks to the AMA. We can buy "Off Road" mufflers and other performance enhancing items that us Buellers seem so like so much thanks to the AMA. I could ride my off road bike (If I had one) in places that would have normally been outlawed thanks to the AMA. I can still buy two stroke dirt bikes, thanks to the AMA. I can watch world class riders on incredibly trick machines at dirt tracks, road race tracks, hill climbs, enduros, motocross and supercross tracks all around the country thanks to the AMA. I can watch a lot of these events on Speedvision thanks to the AMA. One Year AMA membership: $40 Lifetime membership: $750 Getting the AMA to cause Erik Buell to blow a gasket (probably a rockerbox) and hopefully get HD/Buell to build a WORLD CLASS COMPETITIVE SUPERBIKE: PRICELESS (well it will cost me $15-17k when the street version comes out) |

To all potential 202.989 MPH Elf Whoop Ass shirt orderers..... Todd Williams, admittedly not the brightest bulb in the Buell chandelier, but nonetheless loved as a result of his enduring affintity and carefuly archiving of Buell history since some of you were in pre-school, reports that PAYPAL IS VERY PICKY ABOUT CAPITALIZATION. If you are attempting to Paypal for your 202.989 MPH Elf Whoop Ass shirt and encountered trouble, sit back relax and try again. Be advised that after 4:00am tomorrow you are on your own....WE'RE GOING TO PARTY ! Dude.....get this....Henrik, Fireman Jim, Brad "sliding down the ice from the Artic" Johnson, Dave "Mr. Dealer Sensitivity - Buy this Buell or I'll beat you" and people from Iowa, who are always fun to look at (yes, I actually called in a "Traffic Report" to Bob Collins on WGN one morning to report that traffic was picking up as a 2nd car had appeared on the road) are gonna be there. The pools open.....if you are within stiking distance, bet on this thing generating the next round of Buell stories. Court (committed to keeping my fly up regardless of what the Fireman does......) NOTE: Tune into the "Elves Invade" thread on about 11:00AM EST this morning for the "Buell Rules of Engagement" for this event. |

Quote from Jose: "I can watch a lot of these events on Speedvision thanks to the AMA." Cool, you think the AMA will force my local cable company...Time Warner to carry Speedvision???? We dont have it & cant get it here. I guess Time warner execs just dont like motorsports. |

Hold it, so if a cop in pittsburgh pulls me over for riding by myself on the HOV lane I can tell him, "Nope sorry, the AMA has won my right to ride on this road. It says it right here in the Motor Vehicle code...." Can anyone verify it? BradG |

>>>>Can anyone verify it? Actually....yes. I'm not sure how much the AMA had to do with it (and I mean I'm not sure, they could be entirely responsible) but it's a provision, I beleive, in ISTEA (Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act...ahhh...my life) BASICALLY: If Federal $$ are involved, they MUST allow motorcycles. HINT: Wanna know another thing you can thank the feds for?....it is legal to have a modulated headlight (i.e. I use a Gall's wig-wag and Whelan wingtip aircraft strobes) on a motorcycle. BETTER HINT: Follow my lead and carry a copy of the letter certifying this is legal from the USDOT in the pocket of your Aerostich. |

Once again Court comes through. Almost makes me want to go out and buy a Buell. Just have about ah 40 more payments on my bmw.... Anyone need a website designed? Aspiring Buell s2 or new Lightning needed in my garage Actually the reason I ask such a question is that for about a year, the city of Pittsburgh has had a cop sit at the END of the HOV lane going into town. The original intent was to prevent people from entering the HOV lane in the opposite direction because somebody was too dumb to see the HUGE do not enter signs and flashing lights. Anyway, I had heard that it was okay for motorcycles to ride on the HOV lane so I was using it to keep away from the still sleeping morning traffic drivers. I was doing this for about a week and then the cop came over to me and told me that it was illegal to do so unless I had a passenger with me. He did let me go with a warning and I have changed my route in the morning to deal with it but it has left a sour taste in my mouth. BradG |

Brad, the rule for HOV is the motorcycle must carry 1/2 it's capacity. Since most only carry 2, the driver will do. |

"Brad, the rule for HOV is the motorcycle must carry 1/2 it's capacity. Since most only carry 2, the driver will do. " Does this apply to sportscars and corvettes? |

Cops sit in the HOV lanes in Houston too. I wave at them every day as I ride past. I have lived in five states and visited many (including PA) and have never heard of a place where a single rider on a motorcycle couldn't use the HOV lane. Remember, HOV doesn't mean carpool, it means High Occupancy Vehicle. I'd be checking the vehicle code. Cops are human too. |

The AMA does all those things JQ says. The AMA has lobbyists and lawyers who look for negative legislation some law makers are trying to pass by slipping it in with other inconspicuous bills. They fight to get that crap thrown out, make compromises if necessary, etc. The AMA has analysts who examine data haphazardly thrown together by self serving special interest groups who despise motorcycling. The AMA keeps the insurance companies on a leash so they don't bite us in the ass. The AMA has goverment funds earmarked specifically for motorcycle education, campaigns and safety programs. The AMA passes legislation that allows us to ride, period! Have you ever been to a town and had a cop tell you to turn around because motorcycles are not allowed there? I have. A couple places in small town Alabama. I have passed through there since, with a big "shit-eating grin" on my face. Hopefully the mayor saw it. The meager AMA membership fee keeps those with the power, connections and ability employed to defend our rights as motorcyclists. Some states have motorcycle friendly governors (ie. W.Va., TN, PA, OH) who work with the AMA. The fee does NOT go to AMA pro racing. That organization is run as a separate business. So despite what happens in pro racing, don't bail out on the AMA. They exist for our best interest and are doing a very good job at it. That is what they have done for you. The racing organization may be another story as I don't pay attention to it. So take it up with the race org instead. Everybody, JOIN!!! |

Like Glider Sez . . . .. s'important . . . . it's the only game in town to get heard . . . numerous examples in Chicago where the AMA kept my RIGHT to use the public, tax-support thouroughfares in force, despite those in the local gubmint who'd like otherwise |

Hello I tried to post this qestion in the vault but it was taking too long to get a answer. I recently took off my starter assembly so I could paint it. As I was tinkering around, the insides of the stater fell out. When I say the insides I mean the part with the bearings on both ends, magnets , and gears attached to it. The problem is that I can't hold back the brushes at the bottom of the assembly and at the same time put back in, the insides. Does anyone have experince with this, does any one know what I am taking about? |

...the Tier 2 exemption will ensure a haven for the continued, but limited, production of air-cooled V-twin motorcycle engines, which the AMA and the motorcycling community view as a historical and cultural icon of motorcycling in America. |

Grondskpr; You just got your head shot off by wandering in Blakes field of fire in his cruisade against those AMA pro Racing liars. Typical shoot incident. Nothing personal. Just as the typical race incident. You made a good point wanting to keep the professional racers far for the wannabees who are prone to take too high risks for their own small moment of eternal glory. Ah, The pro`s themselves take already too high risks and then calling that just a typical race incident. Well, if I get a shot on the head, it is painless: My helmet protects perfectly: "Language barrier" is painted on it. Well, better than this I can`t do to convince you that we really appreciate people with their own opinions. Keep your head up and keep coming. Hans. |

Robbchap...just pull the brushes out so the springs capture them on the sides...then just gently put things back together (or the brushes shoot back in before it's together) and push the brushes back into place. |

BluzM2 could verify this for me, on I35w going into Minneapolis the sign says that it is also for motorcycles. Denver's does too, there was a cycle cop sitting there watching as I rode by. On I35W they tried to enfore the HOV lane and caused accidents from the rubberneckers. I am not disputing what AMA does for us, I just believe in pointing out that a certain political party is ignoring the Constitution and hell-bent on taking away our rights. When does it stop? If they want to be nice to the group that is trying to screw me, then they don't get any more of my money. |

"If a Buell roars in the woods and there's no Jose' to gripe......is there still a roar?" Or as my wife like to ask: "If a man speaks in the woods and there is nobody around to listen, is he still wrong?" |
