It's a problem compounded by the fact that a car, to a degree, is a discretionary purchase. Wife and I are both due next May and I've placed a (cancellable) order to let the dealer know what I want. But with the economy "in flux" I'm perfectly happy with what she and I have at present. It becomes somewhat of a Catch-22. Just think what would happen is they passed the deal they were talking about yesterday. Every citizen gets a $5,000 rebate from the Feds and a $5,000 from the manufactuers for buying an American car. That'd keep me in a Ford for the next couple years.

Court, That is exactly where the government should put that money. Great idea! Jack |

The only problem I see with the govt. rebate is that it would destroy the used car market and your trade-in value. I guess we're stuck with what they decide, more welfare for the wealthy. No choice! P.S. I wasn't being sarcastic when I said it was a great idea, I thought it was. It took me over an hour thinking about it until I saw a problem. (Message edited by old man on December 05, 2008) |

$10K off ($5K from Feds & $5K rebate) a new car doesn't help if you don't have a job. |

That's true . . . but perhaps all the folks who have been taking out "no income or employment verification" mortgages will buy them . . . |
