Those are some nice looking levers! How much did they cost you? Also, I'm just right up the road from you in Dahlonega. I'll be taking my bike home over Christmas break but if you want to ride in the next week let me know. I plan on bringing it back near the end of February so maybe we can get together then if you want. |

$199 for the levers ..... Yup .. my son's old halloween mask. I have a D&D exhaust so I removed the servo and all the wires and stuck the mask in the hole. We will see how the weather is for the ride ... I don't really have any cold weather gear ... |

Do these levers have the slop in them like the GRG/Pazzos? |

Not sure what the slop is in the other brands ... The brake is tight and the clutch does have some up and down movement if you push it. To be honest I don't remember if he stock clutch lever did the same thing since I never thought of checking it for slop. These lever do have bushing where the retaining bolt holds them on. I'm not sure if the other brands have this. There is no slop when you squeeze either lever ... |

Dmhines, It's that up/down movement in the clutch side I'm talking about. I was hoping the ASV levers got rid of that. Makes a well-built bike feel cheap. |

My Pazzos have far less vertical slop than my stockers. |

If all 3 aftermarket vendors have the same "slop" ... it must be of necessity for them to design it that way. I can't imagine they would all purposely build slop into it for no reason. Again ... I don't recall ever testing the stock lever for slop so can't tell you it is any different. |

I think that it is probably more of a factor of how worn the part that it attaches to is, not how the lever is made. A Pazzo lever (or any of the others) on a brand new bike should be plenty tight. |

My bike only has 4500 miles on it ... no way is it worn ... if I hadn't already sold my old levers I'd put it back on just to verify ... |

Maybe "worn" isn't the correct word. All I'm saying is that it's not to factory specs. Perhaps a little too much vertical pressure has been placed on them at some point? I'm not really sure why it would matter anyway :-p |

Not to factory specs? The factory has tolerances of about three inches for clutch lever slop. I'm with brazenbuck, makes a nice bike feel cheap. I have been on the lookout for levers that reduce the slop. |

"Not to factory specs? The factory has tolerances of about three inches for clutch lever slop. I'm with brazenbuck, makes a nice bike feel cheap. I have been on the lookout for levers that reduce the slop." Fair enough. I don't have that problem with my bike tho, and would highly doubt that anyone makes a lever for an out-of-spec bike. Hopefully for your sake someone can prove me wrong! |

If you do a search it appears the "slop" happens on just about all bikes with all brands of aftermarket levers when utilizing the factory perches. One user on another board said they spoke to ASV and they recommended using those super thin copper washers to eliminate unwanted play. Another guy said he removed the lever and used a C-clamp to slightly close the factory perch and the reinstalled the lever to remove the play .. being careful since factory perch is aluminum (this was on another bike .. not sure if Buell perches are aluminum.) Update ... My Brake handle has very minimal if any slop with the ASV so I am leaving it alone. The clutch had more slop so I removed it ... and compressed the factory perch with a set vise-grips ever so slightly. Now the clutch lever has 0 play in it. I applied some bearing grease inside the perch and everything works nice and smooth. One thing I notice is that the bushing in the lever could stand to be slightly smaller since it is slightly larger than the shoulder bolt holding it in. That could also be another source of play. |

You need play in the clutch. |

Yeah ... I'm not talking about play ... I'm talking about vertical movement of entire lever because the the part that inserts into the factory perch is ever so slightly thinner than the factory lever. Basically ... the lever could wiggle up and down .... PLAY was a bad choice of words in my post above .. (Message edited by dmhines on December 04, 2008) |

Email sent .... good luck getting them in The Land Down Under .... :-) FYI ... I got to go for a ride the other day and I love the adjustable levers. With the factory levers I always kept the brake lever as close to the handlebars as possible. So the Clutch lever always had a much longer reach than he brake. Now that I have the Clutch lever adjusted in not only can I shift faster but it is much more comfortable. Plus ... the clutch now starts to engage sooner when letting out the lever making it more predictable. Adjustable levers are the way to go ... I have no ideal why Buell doesn't include and adjustable clutch lever from the factory. (Message edited by dmhines on December 10, 2008) |
