U.S. Army '67-'69 draft Vietnam, Da Nang, Signal Corps Couldn't have turned out better if I tried -- was stationed at China Beach (Armed Forces R&R locale) surrounded by Navy, Air Force and Marines: total security to focus on repairing com gear... (and weekend BBQs, beer bashes & on-site USO shows). 1 1/2 yrs of JC out of high school prior to draft allowed special tests to determine electronics MOS, thus sparing infantry duty. Spent 9 months stateside training, then 11 in country. After active duty, GI bill enabled me to resume JC and complete a 4 yr college degree in IT-Electronics which qualified for an aerospace engineering job of which I am retiring from after 34 yrs next Jan. |

US Navy 2005 - present Aviation Electronics Technician Offutt AFB, NE - STRATCOMM Wing One Tinker AFB, OK - VQ3 Ironman Squadron Don't ask why a Navy guy is stationed only on Air Force bases in the midwest. After growing up in Missouri, it's just salt in the wounds to have friends point out that I've never been sent to a state that doesn't border my own. Even basic training was in Illinois. Nonetheless.. best job I've ever had. |

Not me but my Dad was drafted. 68-70 Vietnam. He told me stories that when ever he got in trouble... his punishment was to run communication lines instead of being on the front line. He made sure get in trouble every few weeks. |
