I'm really sick of these clear plastics, I'm Done going with plain white...

In the meantime I need to fix this mess...

I figured I'd either glue or Rivet the front...

Any Idea's for the front Tank bolt holes???

i know that there were some warranty issues with the clear plastics... have you checked with your local stealership?

You could find some thin washers or more like eyelets and epoxy them over the holes. Do all clear plastics have these issues or was it earlier batches?

There have been at least two revisions to the composition of the translucent material to make it more durable.

were the stainless sleeves in place? the ones that won't allow you to tighten the bolt down onto the plastics and crack them.

here's a few pics from my '06 i think that may have been the first year for this

stainless bushing

rubber grommet on bushing

when all the pieces are in place the bolt tightens down onto the bushing and not the plastics.

sorry for the diagram

So is it correct then that solid color plastics mount differently than what is shown above?

My '07 Stt w/ the white lid only has a shoulder bolt with the thin white plastic washer. The shoulder is what tightens up against the frame, the plastic waser is under the bolt head to protect the plastic.

The 05's did not come with the spacer. It was retrofitted to the 05's when the stock cover was being warranted to prevent over torquing.

Hemicbx: The solid covers are mounted without the spacer kit.

Not to go off topic here, but How about the flyscreen? Does it have any special mounting beyond the screws & flat washers?

I cut some plastic washers and used super epoxy to glue them to the underside of the clear cover. I still had the pieces of plastic that broke off though, so I glued those to the plastic washers.

For the gas cap bezel I just used double sided emblem tape.

If you decide to junk it and go with something else, PM me. I might be interested in buying it - I just got gas all over my blue box : (
