I have a XB12R. I'm very old and the racer riding position is killing my knees. I've been thinking of trading for the XB12XT. How much lower are the pegs on a XB12XT compared to my "R"? (I already have the "S" pegs.) | ||

I rode the R1200GS at Americade last Spring and I liked it. It is not as "clean" in design as the Uly and probably takes a little more effort to keep sparkling. On the K1200 I wacked my knee on the faring and did not like that bike quite so much - but lots of gadgets on it. Americade is a great venue to test ride a pile of different bikes. Buell does not participate however even though they are listed as being there - it it the HD demo truck only. It was riding the KTM chain drives that really confirmed the drive belt superiority on the Uly for me. I came back to riding recently and really wanted a sensible vertical riding position. The Uly is a bit tall for me but I ride it a lot more than I thought I would. The XT is on my list for next bikes as well. It is a little lower than the X but the Uly is still more of my preference. I am craving for more adventure in my life and the Uly seems like the best to deliver it. | ||

I don't have a ruler, but my guesstimation was about 3 inches lower for the Uly pegs. Also take into account the seats are a tad higher, which will also straighten your legs. | ||

I've got a XB9R and an XB12XT...without measuring, I'd agree with Froggy's assessment. They are different enough that when I go from one bike to the other I spend the first fiew takeoffs with my feet flailing about looking for the goddamned pegs.  After riding the XB9R, riding the Uly is like sitting in a nice lounge chair. =D | ||

Getting older, but have always like dirt bike sitting position. 31" inseam on a XT is very comfortable for my poor knees. Try it yu'll like it. | ||

I'm only sort of old, 60 in January. When I first bought the STT, I thought I’d have knee issues. The dealership put black plastic on and had replaced the solo seat with an S seat. With the solo seat back on, (it's about 1" higher than the other seat) and the stock S pegs my knees are doing just fine. In fact one day last summer I did 470 miles suffering only bloodshot eyes and a tired butt. When I know I’m going for a long ride, I put on a pair of thin neoprene knee braces. They do provide a little support, but most importantly they keep the knee warm and the blood circulating. This seems to help a lot. The thing that really killed me was the low bars. I could only do about 50 miles before back, neck and wrists ached. That was mostly solved with 2” Rox risers and a 1” Precision Engineering riser. One of my projects this winter will be to install higher bars. After owning a FireBolt, don’t know how happy you’ll be with the Ulysses. I’ve ridden the Ulysses and did a short parking lot spin on the new tourer. Didn’t care for either. If your knees could take it, the TT or long S might be a better option. I really like and enjoy the TT. If it weren’t winter, I’d meet you somewhere half way between Seattle and Zillah and let you go for a short ride. | ||

After riding the XB9R, riding the Uly is like sitting in a nice lounge chair. Aye that. I rode Barkers Bolt for about 150 miles in Suches. I didn't realize how much higher the R pegs were until I got back on the Uly. Felt SO much better.} | ||

Thanks for the help. I had a chance to try the XT, it was lower than the X and the seating position was much more relaxed than my XB12R. They want 13K for them around here but I have a feeling the price will drop latter this winter. Still want to try the R1200GS. |
