Going to look @ a 06 Ulysses on Saturday. Less than 3,000 miles - Fair price. Purchasing thru a dealer w/ a warranty but dealer is 120miles away & warranty work will be a pain. Are the any special problems of quirks that should be wary of? Too cold & probably too much snow to really wring it out previous to completing the deal (REALLY - REALLY want to be able to ride before the 1st robin of spring) Thanks! | ||

Bundle up, and take 'er for a spin. It'll run fine in the cold, just be wary of cold pavement and cold tires. Take a moment and set the suspension for your bodyweight (the owners manual has the setting recommendations) before you ride. World of difference, and only about three minutes' time if you're totally unfamiliar with it. Should be a blue canvas baggie under the seat with all the tools you'll need to set it up. Word of warning - don't ride it unless you're prepared to buy it. They're that much fun  | ||

3k! its still a puppy! The lean spot @ 3k is normal. It really messed with me when I bought mine. Especially when cold. Let it warm up for few minutes. other than that it think you will like it. | ||

Confirm that all recalls are done, i.e. kickstand, BAS, windshield fasteners if its the tall one. I don't think they're allowed to let a bike out the door if recalls are not addressed. | ||

Thanks for the offer Froggy - It is appreciated. The dealer is in Central PA but ain't saying more in public. The price is so fair that it might be gone by Saturday. Taking one of the dreaded HD mechanics w/ me but he has no exposure to Buell. (Probably why he volunteered for the expedition.) Thanks again for the pointers - Keep them coming. +1 on warm-up. Do NOT touch the throttle. Make fist, point finger at start button, hit button. Do NOT touch the throttle. Repeat if needed - in real cold weather, I may have to toggle mine 2 or 3 times before it settles into a "why did you wake me when it's this cold out" idle...but do NOT touch the throttle. Yes, there's a theme. It will make for a happy Uly, and a happy (new) Uly owner | ||

Pop the seat off and look to see if the ECM connector is hitting the seat bottom. There should be a block attached to the seat to stand off the seat from the computer. See if the seat is rubbing on the rear cylinder head where your right leg would be. Check the wires where they run up from the frame past the steering into the headlight housing. Check the belt for dryrott in the valleys of the belt. If it's cracked anywhere ask for a new belt, the most current style belt. Check the front rotor for black buildup behind the wholes in the rotor. It will eventually lead to a pulse feel in the break. You can fix it with lydell pads. I was treated great while on a trip buy the guys at Binghamton HD. My father in-law swears by them and drives from Syracuse to get any work done. Four doors down is great food at The Spot. I ate there while they did a service on a saturday morning. They bumped a few bikes that could wait till Sunday to get me done and out the door quick. If you take it for a test ride have the dealer set the suspention for your weight. This will see if the sales guy knows Buells and if anyone in the shop knows how to work on Buells. Good luck. The Buell grins are free with every twist of the throttle. | ||

As a proud owner of an '06, I can say that it's had it's fair share of niggles, but it's a great bike. As others have said, make sure the recalls are done and adjust the suspension. The only major issue I've had was the stator and voltage regulator going bad on me leaving me stranded. I also had a bad fan and bad rear wheel bearing, but they were warranty repairs and I've had no issues since. | ||

Dr. - One elderly engineer to another - Do you have any idea why said plug was loose in the 1st place? Sloppy ass'y @ factory? Sloppy maint. by someone? Over tork during install & strip thd's? Poor metallurgy that head? Heroic fix on prob. of unknown origin. | ||

That would have been a great ride home through the PA coal country. I have a friend that lives in Tamaqua and loves riding in that area. To bad for the snow in the area. Cortland, NY was home for me before the Army got me. You should go ride the Ulysses trail (Homer, NY Ulysses, NY Ulysses,PA) in the spring. Welcome to the ULY fold!!!! | ||

Poor metallurgy. Seems surprising, though. When I cut new threads it "felt" fine. Otherwise I have no idea. Which is why I "did" both heads. Repair ongoing; I had beaucoup oil leakage after the first time. |
