Toastertan - They didn't come with tool kits ( I think). I usually carry a Leatherman and that's about it. Can't tell you about which size wrenchs to take. Go on Cruz Tools website and see what size they're kits have. Oh, and just don't plan on breaking down. | ||

Holy Moly!! At Buellfolk advice I just went to the Cruz Tools website to look at the Buell tool kit. They wanted $167 for a tool kit I could buy individually for under $40!! That 36mm socket they wanted $22 for is $6 at Sears with a lifetime warranty (I've got one for my BMW swingarm). I also don't understand the mix of SAE and Metric wrenches. Every time I go on a trip with my X-1 I take enough tools to damn near rebuild the thing and so far I've just used them to work on 2 different Harleys, a Suzuki and a Yamaha, No Buells yet.(knock on wood) O yeah I gave my spare plugs to a guy on a sporster just out side Morgan city LA. Toaster, print out a copy of the RAN page on the site here, Rider's Assistance Network. I know it worked good for one rider out west last year or so. Toaster . . .rule of thumb . . if it's part of the engine/gearbox, it's likely SAE . . . . .chassis, likely metric Fiwereyou, when I got the scoot home, I'd replace as many of the torx-head fasteners with allens IMMEDIATELY! specially the ones retaining the clutch cover . . . torx are bad enough, but the ones on my Y2K Ma Duece were made out of cheese or somthing with a similar ability to stand up under torque . . . . . you sure can replicate the cruz kit for $40 american . . . .but, hey, the cruz folks are in it to make a profit, yes? | ||

HELP... Am having a minor go round with a Dealer concerning the shock recall. Have read the KV and other postings but just would like clarification. I have a 2000 X1 with the SRP that was installed prior to delivery. At 7,000 miles the shock is leaking big time. In reading service bulletins B-035A and B-033A I interpret that I am to receive the new shock kit installed and that all the dealer need do is call Buell. Am I correct in interpreting these service Bulletins? If I am correct, why would any dealer (especially a really good one) pull my chain to the tune of approx $600 for the parts and labor for the P/N K1400C Kit and then say they will check into the possibility of "Goodwilling" it? Is this "Goodwill" thing a tool for the dealers to use to make themselves look like hero's after tossing the replacement cost in your face. If yes, I really do not appreciate it and feel it is a deceptive business practice. Plus, it tends to make them look good and Buell look like they just got pushed around by the dealer. Thank you for your input concerning this matter. Am not looking for rants and raves...JUST THE FACTS. Bill | ||

Dyna... Agreed! Assume all the right people may be off today, although there was a lot of back room chatter while I had to wait a number of times for answers. Heck, I even gave them the service bulletins to save them time. LOL Hope this is just a one time misunderstanding because I like to do business with friends. I don't get upset with folks, I simply state the facts and if things turn sour, I just say thanks and walk away gracefully. However, this is really stressing my Blood Pressure Meds today and that is No Caca!!! That is the reason for the posting. Geez, if I am wrong in my interpretation, I need to know it. Lord knows I don't want to cheat somebody out of anything, but I do want what is coming to me. Later Dude! | ||

Bill, Call Buell customer service and ensure they know you are calm, collected, and are speaking about a recall part alternative (the SRP bandaid fix) that is both cosmetically unattractive and is failing. State that you may need their assistence in educating the dealership's service manager in question. Then go back to the dealership and state that you have contacted Buell customer service, request or insist to speak with the service manager, and request or insist that they call Buell directly in your presence in order to get the matter resolved to your satisfaction. The SRP shows that your bike did not receive the updated shock and that it is still using the shock covered under the recall issue. The oil leakage adds greatly to the potential of a dangerous situation, and additionally the failing shock will not function correctly and will adversly affect the handling of your bike. That should be enough words to make them just want to make you go away once their eyes gloss over. And if it is a certain shop, speak with the owner who is usually nearby and get his input or assistance in resolving the matter. And if that shop has a BRAG group, get the BRAG leader involved as well.  I don't think he works on Thursdays. It could just be that you were talking with a newer employee or service writer, in which case an education is definitely in order if for nothing else to improve their customer service. | ||

Bill . . . . .I even managed to talk into the free upgrade . . . . the dealer you're at is almost always top-notch . . .. like Mike and Dyna said, got back in and talk to someone that has either 1 gray hair or 2 understand buells . . . . if you have difficulty, get the buell-guy salesperson to come over to service with you . . .. . I've found that helps, too | ||

The Buell tool kit is a good deal, deluxe kit features American made tools. It's worth the extra $$ if you want to avoid a trip to the tool store, and the kit comes with its own container/wrap depending which one you get (std or deluxe). Mixed metric and SAE due to American made bike with Japanese and Italian parts.  You know, if you think of it that way, it makes the bike even more "American". Buell, the great melting pot of motorcycles. | ||

Buellies: Responding to a few comments, but first, thanks for the replies and advice for my trip. Great stuff all. Gun: Yes, normally I would take my Kahr P9 on the trip, however, I will be traveling through the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia and they have some very unforgiving laws on firearms (if not downright stoopid, but hey, that's another whole club...). Tools: I have put together a mix of Metric/ASE wrenches that should support general adjustments and roadside tinkering. I will service the bike (oil/filter/air/plugs) before departing. I read up on the recall parts and general stuff to look out for on this model/year and decided the bike has only 2000 miles on it and for the 2000 I'm going to clock on the way back to Seattle I should be ok. M1-Super w/hack: I imported and assembled a Chinese Chang Jiang 750cc bike with sidecar. It's built from 1930's BMW tooling 'aquired' by the Russians in the early 1940's and sold to the Chinese in the mid-50's. The Russian Ural, Dnepr and K750 are all from this original BMW tooling. It's a very funky, 1930's-looking, flat twin engine (BMW design), only upgraded with 12V system, electric starter and overhead valves. I really love this bike and hate to sell it. It's a hoot to drive, but just doesn't fit my stable right now and I need the dough to pay for the Buell. If I can ever figure out how to post pictures to this list I will share what it looks like.
