Well, it happened. Dropped Loretta doing 15-20, hitting the gas, leaving the parking lot... No wet, sand or gravel, just cold tires and too much lean. We slid about 20 feet. Just got and installed a set of Keith's Sliders 2 weeks ago and the rears saved my swingarm. Ordered a new right side pod and the clutch cover, yay employee discount. Mirror, heat shield, bar-end, muffler clamp and brake lever got scuffed too. but they will stay for now.    It was chilly , I was in full leather. Me and the suit are fine. Zack! Oh no, I'm very sorry to hear that. I like the others here are glad you are Ok (except that feeling in the pit of your stomach). As lazy as I can be some times I didn't have Keith's sliders on when Loretta's brother got hit back in Sept. My swing arm was scraped up as a result. I now have them waiting for my bike as it might get out of surgery soon. Good luck on the repairs. Hopefully sometime soon, some one will come out with sliders for the engine cases. I'm just glad to read that you walked away Z... Loretta faired minor damage but I agree with your thread's topic. I'll be buying those slider parts, if only to save a swingarm as it happens when you least expect it. Gotta give it to her tho...Loretta lays out well without killing your credit card too much in the process! Loretta just might outlive YOU Z! I installed the same rear Sliders and took a dip a week later. Saved my swing arm too... Maybe its good timing or just plain cursed | ||

Spent a couple of hours in the garage last night. Put the slider and bar-end in the lathe and cleaned them up and re-polished them. Smoothed out the scuff on the brake lever and "anodized" it with a black Sharpie. Sanded the scuff on the heat shield and hit it with some muffler paint. Spent an hour sanding and polishing the pod. It's bent a little at the bottom and has a small crack in it, but looks almost good as new. I even took a Dremel to the scuff on the clutch cover so it doesn't look bad. 2009's have clutch cover sliders, I think, yes? Seemed like a bigger thing on the end of ther clutch cover on one I saw. If I'm right, would it retrofit? | ||

They do have a bigger cap on them but I don't think it will hold up much better in a slide | ||

hey zack when u sanded it did u use any kind of filler. i was thinkin of just doing a light scuff and putting some filler in the scratches on mine. but what did u do for the front part with since its so rough? | ||

It won't retrofit without changing the entire outer clutch cover... the diameter of the opening of the Rev. B. clutch cover is considerably larger. To make the swap, you'd need the new clutch cover, and you'll have to transfer components from the original clutch cover, namely: 1) the piston sleeve (needs two new O-rings, too) 2) retaining ring (need a snap-ring tool) 3) the piston itself (along with both linings) 4) spherical washer (and a new O-ring) You'll also need a special tool to disassemble and reassemble the parts... not a trivial job. You'll also have to bleed the hydraulic clutch system to eliminate air, and you do lose some motor oil in the process, which you may have to replace. That said, once you have the Rev. B. clutch cover installed, subsequent repairs should consist of replacing the outer puck only... so, I'd keep my original outer/secondary clutch cover until it's ruined. Yeah, well those threads are helpful, but also incomplete. What I've just related to you is my direct experience... I replaced my clutch cover myself recently. I'll post pics and lists of all the necessary parts and procedure on the forum to make a complete record, including details the service manual omits. Just as soon as my life returns to normal... | ||

No filler - 80 grit - 320 - 0000 steel wool - DuPont polishing compound - Meguiar's Gold Class wax/polish. Almost good as new. Z |
