I bought a pristine X1 a few months ago. Low miles and mostly stock except Crossroads bars, rearsets, SS brake lines and a V&H muffler. Started the process today of mods. Currently bike looks like this:
I will be powdercoating the rear x-frame (semi-gloss or flat black) flat olive green plastics, 26T front pulley and a Forcewinder. The end result will look similar to this:
I hope to not need a catch can. Anybody run a Forcewinder without one without burping oil all over the bike? |

I like the bottom pic..I got a swing arm being hard anodized black. And im going to have the rear sets done black as well as the tail section. I will then be doing the same to the bikes existing parts and sell them after i anodize them. I get it for free, My dad does it for a living. I will put the tail section and the swing arm up for sale in the spring they will be done in HARD BLACK ANODIZING Keep an eye out for them! |

Anodizing the parts sounds interesting, your bike will look great. I will probably do the powdercoating of my parts to save a few $$ vs. buying another set. But - how much will you be selling the swingarm and rear section for? |

I happen to have a swing arm assy.from a 2K X1!...including axle and brake caliper bracket. The bitch is in removing the powder-coat silver, then your home free! |

Forcewinder make one that includes a hole and mounting hardware to vent the breathers back into the intake. I believe it's the XR-2. |

Forcewinder make one that includes a hole and mounting hardware to vent the breathers back into the intake. That's the one I ordered, in wrinkle black. I'm wondering how effective that is because it seems most people still are running a catch can. I use Amsoil synthetic oil, maybe a catch can will not be needed. My 2000 S3 never spits goo as long as I make sure not to over fill -- careful to check oil at the end of the days ride and again only after well warmed up -- |

"Forcewinder make one that includes a hole and mounting hardware to vent the breathers back into the intake. I believe it's the XR-2." XR-2 is designed for the FI models, and has 2 holes. One for the breather and one for the IAT sensor. I'll warn you from experience though, with your IAT sensor mounted in the filter your bike won't like to start when it's been sitting for 5-10 minutes but still warm. (think poker runs) The sensor warms up as heat comes off of the engine, and gives your ECM a bad air temp reading so the bike doesn't like to start again until everything cools down. |

I paid $170 for a CF undertail off of eBay, instead of $300 and change for the one from American Sport Bike (not 100% sure how much the American Sport Bike one costs) I should have bought the one from American Sport Bike. The one I got from eBay is only mounted to the subframe by the tail light screws so I had to use epoxy and zip ties to hang it from part of the subframe under the seat (X1 owners know what I mean) Mine also did not come with the rubber rim that the American Sport Bike piece has running around where it sits against the bottom of the subframe. I've seen a few X1's with the American Sport Bike CF undertail piece and everything about it is better - looks, fit, quality, etc. Right now I'm looking for a CF fuel tank insert for the right side, and this time I'll definitely spend the money to get a QUALITY part from American Sport Bike instead of saving a little green and regretting it later on. “The bitterness of poor quality is remembered long after the sweetness of low price has faded from memory.” - Aldo Gucci |
