Well since I don't have the Uly around to break, I thought I'd break the truck. I was trying to rewire a broken lamp in the overhead console of a 2001 Dodge Ram Truck. I was doing a dry fit and hadn't taped all the connections yet. Sure enough I grounded out, heard the distinctive little "pop" and lost the interior lights. And more. I also lost the dashboard lights and the radio. BUT _ the fuses are all good. Changed them out anyway and they are still not working. I did find the "IOD" fuse was blown - but can't say when that might have happened. Did some on-line googling and found some Dodge owners have had similar issues but where able to get back in working order after removing the IOD fuse for 20 minutes. This didn't work. The next step is too unhook the battery, which I'll try tonight. Any other ideas? |

it's possible you burned up the dimmer switch, but that should only affect the lights controlled by the dimmer, radio is a fuse - did you check both fuse boxes? most constant 12V fuses are under the hood and IGN fuses are located inside the cab (Message edited by 07xb12ss on November 13, 2008) |

Looks like the electrical gremlins are busy here. Checked and rechecked all the fuses. The fuses in the two spots that run the lights involved were good ( when placed in another position) but there was no current at either test position ( using a voltmeter). Then out of the one started working. Five minutes later the other came back on line. I didn't do anything - didn't move a fuse, open a door, move a wire - nothing. Hope the gremlins had their fun with me and moved on - though I've got a feeling they'll be back. |

Sounds like you're good to go for now.. Make sure your tail lights are working. Every car I've owned had tail lights on the same fuse as dash lights, and no tail lights is a very annoying ticket. |
