I'll agree that intake and exhaust are not engine mods and that remapping, while effective, is nothing but tuning.
I'm all for hi-comp pistons.
Guys usually go too big with cams and end up with poor gas mileage and low rpm manners in exchange for power up in the range where we are going to hurt our engines (how did moving the red line up work for you Eric? ![: ]](http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/clipart/proud.gif) )
Great for the dragstrip, my brother is considering a little more cam, but not good on the street or most road courses.
The power is in the heads, compression and tuning.....but remapping is cheap! |

a symptom of too much overlap/duration.
But hi lift/short duration cams usually have radical opening ramps and are hard on the valvetrain. |

i'd like to work on my nuts (which hopefully will continue to reside between my airbox and muffler) first. once i can push myself to the limits of my bike, then i'd consider something like that. ain't nothing to it...yada yada yada

Nahh.It's ok.I'm a geek for engine tech.And feel,once you've exhausted the avenues of airbox and muffler,you need the rest of the package.

ou computer/datalogging nerds should learn about Hi-comp pistons and performance cams.
I already have the pistons, and a few extra CCs...
Cams, once I have some spare cash(been waiting for a while), will come in the form .536s They seem to have a great profile, and, give pretty good numbers all the way through... OF the 575s would be fun...

Who makes the ".536" cams? "Redshift" brand?
I used a mild set of cams on my Sportster.
Andrews "N8" cams as i remember,with .490 lift.I didn't have good reliability with "that" one for other reasons.
It did dyno at 93hp/100 ft. lbs. torque.
It was an 1987 Xl 1100 converted to a 1500
with Branch modified heads etc.
The later XL engine is much more reliable.......for a Harley lump that is. |

how did moving the red line up work for you Eric?
HAHAHAHA..... Just fine, only went 400 rpm's higher over stock. Nothing drastic that is for sure. 6800 is a bit conservative even for these lumpy motors.
Be interesting to see what I do w/ this bike over the winter. The Motor surely needs some love, but I gotta grenade it... before I fix it.....
If I cant break it, there is no need to fix it. |

good news, got a call from the powder coater today to let me know my wheels are all done and they are sending them back to the dealer.
bad news,
option A: what are the odds the dealer hasn't ordered the new bearings or rotor hardware.
option B: they peel the new powder coat off while putting the tires back on.
if they actually manage to have their shit together i may be free to ride this weekend. |

they're fixing what they f-up. stripping and recoat wheels, but i corned them into replacing all bearings and hardware. they figured they would just stick all the old shit back on.
they will never see me for another thing after this. i figured i could at least trust em for a tire change, guess not. |

the best part was when i walked in with my wheels last week before i even got a chance to say anything, the service writer just had to tell me "they don't work on sportbike stuff here" i kept about a good half dozen colorful comments to myself.

That S1 for sale just got bought by ME!!! YAY!!!!!!!! I don't think its a white lightning though, because the frame, wheels, and paint are all black. And it was in worse shape than I thought it would be. Winter project, ho!!!! |

Just got her home, yes its a VIN # s1w, just did the homework and found out 16 color combinations existed. This one is the rarer black/black/black.... I'm GRINNING! Total badass..... love it. Needs a crapload of work, but badass |

Pulled the body, discovered the rocker box gaskets have been upgraded, yay! Then on to the old nasty bolts under the seat and on the sprocket cover, the front sprocket motor brace is upgraded to my old x1 polished example.... Pirelli Diablo Corsa's are on the way, so is a tail light and a few other goodies, gonna try to fiberglass the stock tail first, and if it isn't good enough by Sunday, then I guess I have to cough up some dough for it. Re-upholstering will be done by myself tooo..... My factory twin seat has a strap bolt, so I guess I'm making a strap while I'm at it.....
Man, I can't wait to ride this pig. The linkage conversion has entered the pencil stage, will be done within two weeks, no more pull shock for this girlie!
Now to match up the majic black and get my booth cleaned out..... |
