That's it! I formally disown my interest in AMA Pro-Roadracing. What a bunch of wankers. Long live FUSA and CCS; long live WERA!!! And congratulations to my friend and fellow CMRA racer, John Haner of Houston Texas for winning the GSXR1000 Suzuki Cup Championship. Details HERE |

Dale, Thanks to Bob (X1Glider) a stock CV carb arrived at my doorstep via UPS so that means as soon as I get off my lazy butt and switch out the Thunderjetted carb on my S2 I'll ship it out to you in OH. Look for it sometime in the next couple of weeks. Great news about Maxton. Next year on the salt . . . . David |

Aaron, We were going racing somewhere this year, so we took two bikes to Maxton. The XR-750 ran good from the start, something like 15 passes. Low was about 115, Donnie wheelied it off the start, landed hard and rear carb came loose, he held it on with his leg and went 115. We were geared way too high and didn't have a tach to shift by so the riders were guessing at shift points etc. I thnk its best pass was a 139+. We bent a valve and scuffed a piston 2 weeks before on the S2 so we cobbled together a backup top end. We forgot to set rev limiter and the piston rolled 90 degrees at about 12,500. Bottom held up so all we needed were a valve replace, rear piston and cylinder. None of the spares mated up particularly well so we limited rpm to 7,000. Best pass of 140 with our 29 f and 61 rear. Not ideal gearing as we were just getting into 5th at the timing mark. Pistons were about .010 smaller than cylinders so rings made up diff. All in all we are thrilled. New style crane pushrods seem to work well. We now have till August to piece together the high rpm p-pp enging\e and another top end to chase the m-pg and m-pf records. We had been bending rods and seizing cranks all summer long as we chased the tight tolerances to spin high rpm. Donnie and Jack had been down but Maxton convinced them we can take this bike into 160+ territory. We will be back at maxton to run in th other two xr's, with tach and better gearing for that track. All of us want to see one of these puppies go 150+ in the spring. We do now have three ECTA records for the XR and Buell did not break. Lost power, but we discovered that it was only a stuck float. Tear down this weekend and budget meeting Sunday. Sorry to be so long winded, but Maxton was a real treat for this team. Oddly enough the stock carb worked better with our p-pp exhaust than our bonneville carb, Ron Trock had made us one his special CV carbs. I think we need a lot more air flow to make it work. Paul |

Aaron - sorry for your loss. There's something very special about the relationship between a dog and their owner, as it should be. No wonder DOG spelled backwards is GOD. |

Dale, If you are serious about the extra cylinders, I think we might want them. Donnie and Jack want to spin this p-pp configuration and we really screwed up three of ours. We need stock cylinders for the 95 1200cc buell, I will know more this weekend as we sort thru what we have left. I can't tell you how good it feels to have the bottom end rock solid and only chasing top end problems. Maxton was a treat, running 140+ with what we had was a suprise. Planning on April and maybe May or June meets next year. I remember someone talking about sandbagging a record to help out the pushrod bikes?? What do you need, we have 4 bikes that fit into a lot of differnt classes, let me know what in the heck you are talking about and we will work out something. Paul |

I just heard my first ever Buell commercial on the radio. It began... "Ever heard the phrase, ride it like you stole it?" It went on to explain the new no interest/no payments program Buell is offering. It's about time Buell started advertising in places other than motorcycle magazines. Most people STILL don't know what a Buell is and I guess the folks in East Troy know this because at the end of the commercial, listeners are directed to the Buell web site, and they actually spelled out B-U-E-L-L.com Good on ya. Made me smile all the way home. |

"What timing Paul, great minds think alike eh," Rocket old mate in your's and mine case's it's more like FOOLS SELDOM DIFFER!!!! The Gixer hasn't blown me away yet still slower on a given set of curves than the Buell but me thinks thats the rider not the bike. The more I relax and get used to the sort of power thats only a small twist of the wrist away the better I like it. It's not a Buell and there are things about the Buell that this will never replace, but they should be able to co-habitate well together. |

Taking a few steps back....I agree with Court...Buell technology is manifesting itself into the Harley lineup. They changed the cases this year on the TC...no more of that "pressed in" crap they've been doing for umpteen years.... It's like the XB now, the flywheels just "fall" out after the cases split...Mucho nice Frank |

>>>>Buell technology is manifesting itself into the Harley lineup. And in ways you can't possibly imaginge. >>>>It's about time Buell started advertising in places other than motorcycle magazines. There is a quiet revolution taking place in Buell Public Relations and Advertising. I am very saddened to share with you guys that the fellow spearheading it lost his life in that terrible traffic acccident near Milwaukee the week before last. Paulinoz, I went through a transition period from the Buell to a Busa, and what I finally figured out was to leave the Busa in a lower gear and rev it higher. Perhaps the same would work for the 1K. Keep the revs up in the 8-11K range. If the road is tight, leave the bike in low, or maybe second if the corners are more open. The extra torque will give you some engine braking, and the revs will help stand the bike up comming out of the corners. If the 1K has a slipper clutch like the Busa you won't have to worry about crowhopping the back when you let off the thrott. I am very jealous, I want a 1K gixer pretty bad. Paul, (in OR) |

Just got the Bonneville bike back into sheep's clothing again. What a rocketship ride to work, boys and girls.I am here to tell ya,this Nallin boy builds a nice motor. Its extremely tractable at low rpms, but pulls like a freight train!!!This was my first ride with 6 speed on the street.I can finally stop that futile search for another gear--cuz now I gots one!!Still cleaning salt off of hidden spots. When I get it all cleaned up I'll show you how good a 70,000+ mile S-2 looks. |

FMJ, don't you have some weird raggedy performance in your power curve in the midrange? I've seen the dyno test on it. Or did you swap out the carb for the street? BTW, sorry Bonne didn't go as planned for you. But, next year... |

That was a function of his short pipes, they cause a mid-range richness on their way to delivering top end power. It can be addressed with a Thunderjet kit which adds an additional circuit to the carb, allowing the mid range to be leaned out, but considering he put it back on the street, my guess is he went with a more street friendly exhaust system instead. |

Aaron, My deepest sympathy with the passing of your dear pooch. I would have responded sooner but 'Ole Baldie has been at a loss for words. I look into the eyes of my two Great Pyrs and wish that they spare me the pain by slipping away peacefully on their own when the time comes. That probably won't happen and I'll again be faced with the tough decision you've just gone through. I never had the chance to meet your pup but can imagine her demeanor. Dogs assume the the personality of their chosen master (Case in point--Court and "clone", so knowing you means your pup was special. Kerry AKA 'Ole baldie |

Aaron...sorry to hear about Opie...the dog seemed to be doing pretty well when we were out their...of course that was just to my eye. PAul M....I have two 883 cylinders in silver/gray paint. Their are no markings on the outside of the cylinders theirselves. I believe you could use them in Production..paint em black & hi-lite the fins edges if needed. Would need the boring routine of course. They are yours if you need them...just ping me. A little bit of rust on the inside cylinder wall...it'll disappear with boring & a little rust on the cylinder lower sleeve that can be cleaned up easily. On the sandbagging thing...that's a points chase type thing at ECTA...I never mess with it although George & Snyder do...I just wrench on their bikes & let them worry about that side of it. Unless one is pursuing a points thing at Maxton, their never is a need to do it. I'm sure Crim & Snyder would explain it to you if needed though. Maxton is a lot less lax in the class rules & such...suppose to change some over winter though...right now any bike can run in any class if it's disadvantaged. heck, we started out this last meet in a "streamliner' class with an ole Harley!...about as streamlined as a brick! On a side note...if anyone in Buell land knows where a set of standard sized XR-1000 pistons are a laying about...I'd appreciate a heads up! Rivera has .010" & over but no standard sized. Dale A. |

Shoulda prolly posted this in the knowledge vault or somethin, but I'm trying to get a fellow Bueller back on the road asap Thanks in advance for the help.... Frank |

Cyclone1, Quote from the manual (it's in yours in the section of cylinder head assembly after valve guide repair): a: Chase threads in cylinder head with a 7/16-14 TPI NC tap before installing NEW bolts. b: Coat NEW bolts with Loctite Threadlocker 262 (red) c: Tighten bolts to 73-78 ft-lbs (98.9-105.7 Nm) Hope this was timely enough for you.
