And all I could think of while I was hunched over the bars and struggling to see through the mirrors was... this engine and trans would be great in a ULY platform! The fuel management and power response was great (but there appeared to be plenty of driveline lash that I assume is between the engine and transmission because of the same belt final drive). I think it is a beautiful bike anyway. I left the dealer after the test drive and flew home on my ULY thinking my bike isn't so bad to begin with ('06 model) and my wrists and neck don't hurt after short or long rides. One thing though, the transmission was so precise (the one I rode anyway) that it almost feels like it is digital instead of mechanical. Take the transmission in the ULY and make it move much easier to shift up and down - and that is what it felt like. Very smooth. And good exhaust sounds too. If the ULY graduates to this drivetrain, I don't think that would be a bad thing. The new ZTL2 brakes felt pretty darn nice too. |

Same here. I got approved for a loan on one, I am thinking of going through with it, but I just know it will be out in blue soon. I will kick my own ass for turning it blue before Buell does, again. |

I love the thing. When I first saw it in person thought I made a huge mistake buying my XT but 2 different animals. Wife said in 2-3 years I can get it and I am holding her to it. |

I can't think of a valid reason to have that engine in a Uly. Maybe an engine of the same design but tuned totally different. I can't even begine to see why I would want that type of punch on a 2 up touring machine. The girl friend would want me to get a Vstom after one ride lol. But hey you can get that engine just buy a CR. |

I used to have an FJR1300, and having 125hp and 90ft/lbs of torque to the ground was AWESOME! When I filled out my Buell survey recently, I put in the comment section that they needed to put the 1125 engine in the Ulysses. For those of you who say you don't need the power...well, there is a simple solution. Don't twist the throttle as much. But for those of us who WANT the power, we're sort of stuck waiting for Buell to expand the 1125 engine into the other bikes. I think it's pretty much a done deal, as the EPA has put so much pressure on air-cooled engines. Yes, the air cooled motor in the Buell runs clean without a cat, and is quite with the stock muffler, etc....but even Harley decided it needed to develop a liquid cooled motor, and that speaks volumes. And for GOD SAKE.....don't "tune it for torque" or any of that foolishness. Give us the 1125 engine in full tune, thank you. |

The 1125 has all the tq that is necessary so tuning for more tq and less hp is a wasted exercise. I agree that the 1125 power only needs to be gotten used to and the throttle judiciously used. For those that think it has too much power then I'd just have to ask why do so many of us change mufflers, add holes to the air box cover, etc? |

We are putting lightning handle bars, cables & wiring, with mirrors for a tall guy, a Firebolt touring seat which adds about an inch to the seat height, and a set of Uly drop down footpegs to gain an additional inch of leg room on one of our CR's. My bet is that I'll sell a bunch of them this way. The rider position with this configuration will be much more upright, the way I think many people expected it to be. Demo rides so far, from vertically challenged guys who ride up on a XB9R Firebolt, to average Joes riding Lightning Longs or XT's, or tall guys like me who put a 2006 seat on his 2007 Uly to get more height - no one seems to care for the 1125CR riding position. I could be wrong, but I wouldn't like it. ~jammer |

Why put the LOKI drive train in a smaller Uly frame? Why not put a Uly front end on an 1125 chassis with its better brakes, bigger gas capacity and that Helicon motor? Hmmmm... what an idea. Wish we thought of that.

Here is a 1125CR being outfit with Lightning handlebars. Come on out and take it for a ride. We are waiting on a pulley but we should have it available for demo rides in a couple weeks. High Country H-D/Buell, where you meet the Best people, some fast riding ones too.

Hey Joules, Why didn't Buell think of that? I was expecting the CR to be set up the very way you are doing it. I bet it will come that way very soon just like the XT followed the X. I find that Buell doesn't think outside of a very narrow box until the consumers show the way. |

just rode an 1125 CR & xb12xt @ grover HD in Piqua oh wow what a difference in these 2 bikes. I didn't get to ride by myself and didn't really get to open the 1125 up to much. I never got the throttle all the way open or revved out, how ever when I was chasing the 1125 on the Uly I defiantly had it wtfo a couple times. I don't know that a Uly could handle that much power in such a tall short wheel base with long travel forks. I really like the feel of XBs, beater than 1125s, but that power is awesome, I would take that motor in my Uly may be some thing like Suzuki has with multi pal power settings. big ups to grover supper nice people they also know Buells I spent 45 min talking Buell with the owner Jim Jr. and a half hour with a sales guy the day before. If you are in the market for a new Buell check them out |

I find that Buell doesn't think outside of a very narrow box until the consumers show the way. I wasn't a marketing major, but I suspect they know exactly what they're doing. Buell is a relatively small company; they can't afford to bring out a new model and have it bomb. People have built every variation of bike from the XB's by swapping S, R, Ss, and X parts. I'm surprised someone hasn't built a home brew 1125X or XT yet. It'd be some work, but not THAT much work. |

That is incorrect. Yes they have improved the bikes over the years based on real world feedback and customization, but your statement is flat out wrong. About the handle bars, Buell offers a kit right in the accessory catalog that does what Jammin_joules did. Could it end up standard on the next 1125 model? Perhaps. |

I just got done test driving an 1125CR at Independence HD/Buell in College Station Texas. A couple of things I want point out. I love the motor and trans, but the pegs are to high for me (the same issue I had with the 1125R). I had a chance to ride a VROD for the first time right after I rode the 1125CR. and given that they are two completly different bikes, I was trying to compare the motor tranny between the Porshe designed VROD motor and the Buell/Rotax designed 1125. To me the 1125 revs quicker and almost seams harsh compared to the VROD motor and that may be the gearing difference between the 5 speed VROD and 6 speed CR and the fact that the 1125CR is a 375lb bike vs and the VROD is a 637lb bike. Both bikes have tons of torque. But I am trying to imagine the VROD motor in a Buell frame (preferably a Uly suspension). While I was at the dealer, I spent some time with the service manager who's last position was with Buell testing. He was one of the guys that was tasked with trying to break the ULY. Intesting Day... |

> Why put the LOKI drive train in a smaller Uly frame? Why not put a Uly front end on an 1125 chassis with its better brakes, bigger gas capacity and that Helicon motor? Did you do anything to increase travel on the rear end? Will a Uly shock fit? I don't suppose the subframes interchange? |

I'm not sure the Helicon engine would be a good fit for the Ulysses. That engine is a gas hog and one of the things I love about the Thunderstorm, is the fuel economy. I'm sorry but 35mpg is fine for a bar hopper, but not so good for any kind of touring bike. I hope Buell sticks with the thunderstorm unless something can be done about the Helicon's fuel economy. |

When I test rode the CR I was getting low 50's mpg according to the dashboard. Not much worse than the Thunderstorm, and the extra gallon in the frame makes up for it. |

The Thunderstorm engine is a long stoke under square engine that is more efficient. The Rotax motor is over square meaning large pancake pistons with a short stroke just like Ducati. This makes a quick revving high rpm, high HP motor that will suck gas. There is no way that this engine will ever be as efficient as the Thunderstorm. Everything's a compromise, you can't have it all. The best you could do is build a square motor where the bore and stroke are the same. This would give you better mileage than the rotax and more HP than the Thunderstorm. Square motors are actually pretty nice in the real world. |

Water cooled motors make more power more efficiently. They also meet emissions easier. My take on this is it will go to some form of water cooled motor soon. With the torque cams and a properly geared final ratio, the helicon Uly is a real possibility BuellUlysses1125 |

put some journey bags on that thang and I'll be trading off my 06 and I don't want no watered down engine,I want all the HP. there is no such thing as too much HP. |

The 1125CR has a lower gear ratio, the bike is lighter than a Uly too. Put on a set of Uly triple clamps and forks, the rear suspension is not that critical IMHO. I guess we'll be finding out real soon anyway. As opposed to PhotoShop, this is real world shop. Just some wiring to go, lights are kinda important.

This month's MCN had a quickie review of the CR....seemed to really like the bike. Never realized that >50% of Buells are sold in Europe... |
