I went to the stealership today to take a look at the new CR. They had one in Black (those are faster than the other colors right?). Long story short, the dealer wanted to go from his MSRP of $11800 + $500 setup + $300 Doc fee for a total of $12600!!! He wouldn't budge off this amount! What have you guys OTD prices been? TIA.

Got mine out the door for just under $14k. Sticker is quicker!

BTW, the RED ones are faster, but the black ones handle better. Right XL?

The new bike market can not possibly be great at the time. I'm surprised to see such large numbers.

The new bike market may not be, but the problem is that I wasn't in the market for any other bike.

Oh well, it was worth it!

Capitalism in action!

(BTW, I am a car salesman. I know exactly what I was doing. I was paying the price when value exceeded cost.)

You pay more to be first.
If you want to get a deal wait a while.

$13,465.24 here in so cal with local county sales tax. Wait until the 2010 models are coming out for a deal. Only problem there is that most dealers are probably trimming their orders down because they had to blow out the 2008 1125R due to over ordering so there may not be the overstock there was last year.

I think the base price of the bike was 11,600 or so. Tack on dealer prep, lovely sales tax and title as well as the $1000 LoJack and it was a hair over 14k. I did however get the choice of $200 off the bike or a $500 gift card for the Harley shop.

I got my bike in February, MSRP if I remember right was $11,900 at that time and OTD was $13,160. The dealers should be willing to deal on the 08's. My dealer has 2 in their basement and 1 demo left. They sold a total of 3 including mine. I think the reviews killed their sales, but now that most of the problems have been corrected this should be good for someone that is ready to buy!

Sorry, I just saw that this thread was for a CR. I was referring to the R.

Sales tax here in Colorado is dependent upon the address you are registering a motor vehicle, from 2.9% to 8.25%. So not counting that tax 1125CR here is $11,695 MSRP + Buell 2009 freight of $285 + $300 set up. I think with $149 for temp tags & title fees, we were looking at $12,429.

Don't know if you longtime 1125 owners have ever wondered, but -- how does a company (BMC) with only 200 employees (Eric Buell interview) that makes & sells fewer than 2,000 1125 bikes per year (according to another thread on this Board), and (I think) builds them largely or completely from outsourced parts (at the very least the engine and frame and tyres and likely the wheels and everything else!) make any money at all selling them at $11,695 MSRP?! Which means that perhaps BMC is getting far less (someone on the Board will know; perhaps $7,500?)

I mean no offense when I say, given all the $$ that it must require to do all the clever engineering (I'm an industrial designer with a long manufacturing career) and then assemble the bikes, market/advertise them, support racers, offer race-only bits, crate them, ship them, provide sales engineers -- it has to be more of a hobby!

I mean, think of the warranty costs!

Again, I mean no disrespect to BMC; instead that, considering what's gone into the bike, it's an outrageous bargain because all those costs can't be amortised over large production runs. And here in Oz they're A$17,500 MSRP, which would've included shipping costs, local marketing, and local compliance to Australian standards, and the exchange rate which is now only ~A$0.65 to the USD!

Oh my God! I don't see how they're paying all the bills, much less Eric Buell!

If it can be believed the summer issue of Fuel magazine says that at the time of publication BMC had built 2891 1125R's. That should make the profit and loss statement a little better.

Well Erik gets a nickel every time someone mis-spells his first name. Sort of makes up for it.

The important question is not how many units are built, but how many are sold.

I have heard, but no way to prove, that The Co. subsidizes Buell completely. Based upon the numbers, it appears that just may be the case.

"Well Erik gets a nickel every time someone mis-spells his first name."

Thank God. (Uh, oh, did I spell His name right?)

I'm not on a first-name basis with Mr. Buell, so perhaps I'll have to stick with spelling his surname correctly.

With the efficiencies of their manufacturing process, BMC may be able to build our little babies inexpensively enough that their profit margin is acceptable. One of those "how high is up" questions. Probably a dozen people in the world know the real answer to that...

FWIW, Buell's wholesale rate is about 10k on the 1125r. I don't know what they pay suppliers, but they just moved frame production in house and the Rotax is less thank 5k.

Which is supposedly LESS than the Thunderstorm V-twin costs...

"Buell's wholesale rate is about 10k on the 1125r . . . Rotax is less thank 5k."

With my manufacturing background, I'll say that one would work towards a 50% direct cost (that is, raw materials, components, direct labour to build the product). Then from the remaining 50% comes indirect costs, which are many (as mentioned earlier, salaries and marketing and warranty, blah, blah). That first 50% has gotta be merely a dream for BMC as they're already at 50% direct cost after buying only the engine; now they've got frames and swingarms and wheels and tyres, inbound freight, much more to buy. Geez.

"they just moved frame production in house"
Actually, in another thread I got told off for stating that my dealer had told me just that; and that instead BMC had changed outside suppliers.

I'm looking to buy and I'm getting anywhere from 11,700 to 12,500 asking price right now. Sales tax is 6%-7%, setup is $500, and tag is probably a couple hundred more.

What's a good way for me to get the dealers to get into a price war?

Hi guys, Buell msrp is $11695 and frt setup & prep should be $995. Title fees and taxes are per state. Prep. should include the dealer adjusting suspension and ride height to each customer. Having the superbike bar kit in stock also helps to make your deal. If your in the northwest region call Dave @ Latus motors; 800-446-2525. Nov. & Dec. purchases get heated riding gear @ no charge! I believe that "CRs" will hit their popularity by spring and supply could run short.

Have some patience, save your money and in about 3-6 months you will see all kinds of vehicles of every description being sold dirt cheap. We're in a severe recession that looks to be getting worse. I fully expect many dealerships to go under, and then the banks will be selling the vehicles at auction. Bike sales are probably off by more than 50% right now. Forget about trying to finance a bike, just buy with cash.}

I purchased from Thunder Tower Harley Davidson in Columbia, South Carolina. Was able to talk down the MSRP by $300. Added a full five year warranty back on when I purchased just for piece of mind. Email me if anyone is interested in my opinion of their dealership. I am not a Harley groupie, don't spend much time around their place, so my knowledge is limited to my two visits.

My local dealer's price for the CR is $11695 but they quoted my friend $11495 so they're sticking to the latter. And freight is $285, setup is $549 and doc fee is $189. That said, the sales guy said the aforementioned will be waived and they would work on pricing of the bike as-is due to the economy and time of year.
