The side cases on the Outdoorsman are smaller, I think, than the Journeyman. The top box is voluminous. I can get two helmets in by laying them on their sides.
The Outdoorsman bags work perfect for me because most of what I carry is law books this semester and camera gear. My notebooks and text books fit in the side. I stuff a bike cover in the top box and when I get to school I pull the cover out, put it on the bike and stick the Aerostich in. It just works nice.
In addition, the Outdoorsman are the best quality, I'd call them as good as, perhaps better, than the BMW bags on the BMW I just got rid of. They are high quality and dry as a bone.
Another element that I like is that the bags are light. One drawback to some systems it the tare weight of the bags. I thought I was cool when I bought all the Pelican cases for when I travel . . until I found that the weight of the empty cases allows me to carry like two t-shirts before I am into excess baggage.
So far . . . the Outdoorsman, for my needs are working perfectly.
More data with more miles . . . . just shy of 1,000 miles last week. |

The Juniors come in two sizes (I believe the Outdoorsman is the smaller Junior) 30L and 40L. The Journey is 42L. The Gobi top loader now comes in black and is 37L.

My goal is to find a good medium case between the Outdoorsman/Junior and the Buell Journey. The Outdoorsman mounts look like the ticket, and will allow more side case versatility. |

The Gobi's come in black and can store over three litre's of liquid in the space between the inner and outer walls. Very cool. They even offer an optional spiggot for it. I still think I'm gonna go with the alu-exclusives. |

I have been able to craft an elegant solution for you as well as future Ulysses owners with similar problems.
It will take the R&D Team a bit to work through some of the processes but I can, like I'd suggested on the phone, get you the things you need without delay while future processes and detailed procedures undergo development.
I got precisely, down the the proper key, the parts I need for you from Germany, just need to coordinate delivery.

The only complaint (ok, except for the heat) I have had to date with my 06 has been the Hepco Becker bags I got with the bike. They look great, easy to attach/detach, hold lots of stuff, etc. BUT, the latches suck. The first year I owned the bike I broke a latch by reefing on it too much. As it turns out, too much aint much at all. Buell fixed the broken latch by getting me an entirely new bag that supposedly had a new and improved latch. I saw no difference. I recently wrote Buell to see if they would/could do anything to trade my bags for the outdoorsman - they politely declined (it was worth a shot). I have always been perplexed by the shoddy latching system they put on these bags. IMO - go with anything but these bags. |

That is interesting as I've never had a problem with the 07 stock bags. I love them, but like I said earlier I never use a latch to lever on them. I make sure I can close it without latch leverage. |

I don't either, anymore. Even so, I make sure I'm wearing my kid gloves whenever I close them.
I realize that a thief could get at the contents of almost any bag if he really wanted to, but think about the easy access to these bags with such a flimsy latch. You can easily pop a locked latch by hand with little effort. Very little deterrent built in - actually, it's more like an invitation. |

The latches on the Outdoorsman seem very good. I do, based on folks' experience with the Journeyman, use caution and make certain everything is aligned on the latch before closing it.

Question for Court, posted openly on this thread in case other readers have solved the same problem:
Is the Buell emblem shown on your Outdoorsman/Junior bags available? I thought I had purchased the same stickers you have from H-D (p/n 90098-05Y), but when I went to stick them on the bags, I found that they're about 1/2" to 5/8" smaller in diameter than the H&B stickers that came with the bags. Any chance anybody knows a part number for larger diameter Buell stickers? |

The GRAPHIC seems to be a Service Part. Try taking this number shown here for the GRAPHIC (M0411.1AU) and have a dealer "poll" it . . . check to see if it is in stock at any Buell dealer.

Thanks Court! My local dealer found that part easily, and told me it is a 60mm sticker. I went outside and measured, and that is indeed the correct part. |
