+1 on what Court said!! I have limited experience with Dan but everything want off with out a hitch. I needed my parts by a certain day for a long awaited ride and he made sure that the parts were there. He even called to make sure that I had received them. Sounds contrary to what you are trying to sell. | ||

Greetings from the UK! Just got myself low mileage 07 mdl Black XB12X and looking forward to enjoy having that silly grin back on face whenever been out riding! Am sure will be posting more on here but just wanted make first posting. Previously owned variety of bikes from Triumph Tigers to Suzuki M109R... what's up to all the buell fanatics out there!! my favorite bike of all time is the s1 lightning, from 1996 to 1998. i am in the market for one. i am selling my 1962 vw beetle for it. 2700. for the new motor. 800 for the car, 3500 for both. buell has it in spades, where other bikes don't. don't know what else to say. buells are sick.......f--kin sick. | ||

whats up to all you beull enthusiasts. i have been a fan of buells since 1996, and the old style, 96 to 98, is still my favorite. will be in the market for one as soon as i sell my 1962 vw beetle. i am foaming at the mouth to get back on 2 wheels. it has long been my opinion that buells are the best bikes around. | ||

Just wanted to say hello. Bought my first Buell yesterday (96 S1). Has 6k miles/Vance and Hines/ Rear Hugger/Red...Tank paint suffers from the usual bubbling but I just purchased one w/o the problem on Ebay. I've always owned Japanese bikes so this is a first for me....any advice regarding care/ upkeep/prospective issues to address is welcome from any and all...fun bike/great torque...took it out for a 100 mile ride as soon as I rolled it off the truck....different kind of ride...edgier gearbox, but it pulls like a tractor... | ||

hey everyone I'm new to bad web and don't even own a buell yet.. after searching for some time and finding the bike I wanted XB12Scg the bottom fell out at my company and the doors closed (I was about 10 days away from ordering one from my local Buell HD dealer), so now I am back to square one. Back to school for another degree and or certificate. (soon its ROTC)so for now I'll just drool over all of your beautiful bikes and dream of the mods I will pepper my bike with when I can order one again. (if you know anybody in need of a former Air Force flightliner and a very recent civilian in aerospace or intelligence guy for duty stateside or in hostile overseas work its me!)   But in all seriousness I think these motorcycles are great! Fuel in frame sold me the instant I caught wind of it, then add in the under slung exhaust and super ridged frame design and I can’t wait to own one! I come from dirt bikes and love the naked street fighters, and got tired of my friends high revving 4’s constant scream so I knew I needed a V twin. One thing that does kinds make me nervous is the single sided inside out brake… honestly is it worth the drop in weight? I just can’t help but think that it would still pull or offset the axle too much. In any case, I digress, love the board, probably just going to lurk for now but you guys are great! | ||

If you map the force vectors, you will see that the single sided brake will *not* cause the bike to pull on a two wheeled vehicle unless you actually apply enough force to bend one fork tube but not the other. This doesn't happen, you can take it all the way up to a rolling stoppie and it won't pull. And in fact, the design of the system relative to the traditional hub mounted rotor transmits to force from the rim to a foot up the fork (instead of through the axle), which gives a LOT less leverage to try and deflect the forks then the traditional setup. The axle has an asymmetrical load with a single sided brake I suppose, but its a shear load, and it's pretty easy to make an axle that won't shear. About the only "proven" drawback of the rim rotor is that they do get hot under racing conditions... but even that isn't a given. Trojan has been advising the UK race teams to go with a dual disk front end, but lots of US racers are sticking with the single perimiter brake but going with the new ZTL2 extra piston caliper. Both setups have won races, and I think the single rotor setup has won more. So don't sweat the single perimiter rotor, it's nothing but goodness for the street. It may be worth upgrading the pad compound to race type material (lyndalls, etc) if you are going to ride it like you are racing it, but the rest of the system works fine. Good luck with the job search! Don't rule out an older 9s... they are getting cheap and are still really nice bikes. Lots of nice updates on the 08's, but the 03's were still solid bikes (ask Glitch, pushing more then 40k of hard miles on his now). (Message edited by reepicheep on November 09, 2008) | ||

thanks for the info guys Reepicheep you got it right with my worry of the asymmetrical loading while using the brake. does the disk on one side move the tire off center or the axle? (in essence creating a lever. IE 60lbs applied 1" from center on the left and 60lbs applied 1.75" from center on the right. = 45 more lbs of fore on the right. I guess I am worried about more force on one handle grip vs. the other. (uneven leverage forces leading to a torsional load on the bike or wheel) this was a big problem on some of the dirt bikes I rode. It sounds like this isn't a problem, and I have no need to worry. I think haveing the force on the rim as opposed to the spokes is a great idea, its much stronger structurally. I hear they stick a bit on the ZTL2 from what I read but like you guys said a new compund pad should clear alot of that up. sorry court I put to many ideas together.. what I meant to say (but apperantly wasnt feeling particularly articulate at the time) was that my worry is if it offsets the axle to one side because of brake clearance on only one side pushing the wheel off to one side more than the other.. should I move this to another thread? Been away from cycles WAY too long From the vantage point of an old man Buell seems the only way to go at the moment (BSA having given it up long ago) Anybody have an opinion on (re)starting with a Ulysses after 20 years away from serious riding & never riding anything bigger than 500cc? - took & passed the beginning riders course. Want to ride the 2 lane secondary roads & peek up the seasonal roads & fire breaks. | ||

Welcome savage. I like the Ulys. Sounds like your old enough to go easy on the throttle until you get used to the power of a Uly. I started riding and got a Blast (500cc) and 2 months later traded up. Kinda wish I would have just started with what I wanted. So my advice is to test ride the Uly and if you like it, get it. Just have to be a little careful while you get used to the go and whoa. But It won't take long. Good luck, ride safe, have fun! | ||
