I'm thinking about putting a GPS unit on my 1125r. Anyone have a pic with GPS on their 1125. What type do you use and how did you mount it. | ||

Mine is the Harley Model Conquest (same as the Garmin Quest II). I used the Uly mount with a little corner cut off to fit around the upper triple. The Uly mount plugs right into the aux power plug behind the cluster.  | ||

I honestly do not remember how much it cost as I bought it with my Uly before I sold it to get my 1125R. You can get it from any Buell dealer. | ||

I suspect it is just the Garmin motorcycle mount. I heard that Buell does not sell it separate from the GPS, but probably worth a call to your dealer to verify. Ram mounts (not sure if any of our sponsors carry them or not) offer a bazillion great options for great mounts, from cheap to $$$$. Thats what I am using on my XB9SX and my KLR-250. The Quest needs 5v regulated, but thats an easy enough thing to slap together if you get the non official Quest motorcycle mount. It comes with the Garmin / Buell setup (at $70), you probably have to put together your own with most of the Ram setups (which can be as cheap as $10 if you just get the plastic cradle and fabricate your own bits for the rest). There are at least two full Buell GPS (just Garmin Quests) systems in the classifieds right now, complete with mounts. The Quest is getting a bit long in the teeth, but it still makes a great motorcycle navigation unit. You don't get the "diagonal birds eye" view, and you don't get fancy stuff like bluetooth, and if you want up to date maps you may be looking at a $80 upgrade. But on the other hand, if your mount power fails or you want to go walking, the Quest will give you 10-15 hours of battery life, the thing can be submerged 1 meter for a day and still be running (probably still with a satellite lock), and it will stand up to abuse on motorcycle handlebars (if you add a $10 external antenna). So not nearly as nice as a Zumo or something, but in terms of actual simple navigation, it is arguably 100% just as useful as a Zumo, and you can probably score one for 1/3 or less of the cost. I would defiantly take a Quest over using a car unit on a motorcycle. I would think the car units would be fairly short lived, I have been fairly mortified at the things my Quest has been through and does not seem to be bothered by... | ||

They do sell it separate from the GPS. I had bought the HD Conquest with my Electra Glide months before the Uly. I purchased the mount separately. Go with the the Quest II by the way the Quest can only hold so many maps while the Quest II has all of North America plus some extra memory for user uploaded maps. The Ram mount for the Garmin Zumo is an excellent system. I put it on my S3, I took it with me to Homecoming and put it on the Uly that we rented from Hals. It comes with the commercially available Zumo kit... not sure if it comes with the Buell-branded kit or if it's extra. It is danged near a universal mount and I believe it'd mount to ANY motorcycle with the included hardware. | ||

Good point Krassh. The Quest 1 will store about 2 - 4 states worth of detailed data at once. Quest II is all of US. Rumor has it that the Quest II is slower, but I have played with both and I never noticed. | ||

When I have my Zumo mounted that flat I have a hard time seeing it because of reflections/ glare from the sky. Mine is mounted more upright and in my line of sight. Neil S. | ||

I do have it angled slightly to prevent the glare. I prefer it not to be in my direct line of sight. To me it's more distracting to see the movement on the GPS screen. In other words its less of a distraction to glance down at it than to have it flicker in my field of view. It is in direct line of sight of the speedo. It is no more distracting than glance to check my speed or rpm. Just as it should be. | ||
