Looks like the last thread went to the archives so I'll start another one. I can't BELIEVE no one was seriously hurt in this crash: http://tinyurl.com/46bdfx |

With the new R1, and the possibility of Spies in WSB in '09, I'm glad I work for a Yamaha dealer- it's gonna be a great year! My white/red R1 has already been ordered (long bang is the only way I'll own an I-4) and if I'm lucky it'll show up by Christmas. |

With the new R1, and the possibility of Spies in WSB in '09, I'm glad I work for a Yamaha dealer- It did seem a dead cert that Spies would sign for Yamaha Italia to replace Haga and partner Tom Sykes for 2009, although that has now been thrown into doubt once again following Sylvain Guintoli's impressive test for the team yesterday. Guintoli apparently has offers to stay in MotoGP but is also seriously considering a move to WSB if he is offered a top ride. He did over 100 laps at Vallelunga with lap times good enough for 4th place in Sundays race. Guintoli will undoubtedly come cheaper than SPies, which will of course be a factor in the team decision, especially as they are not an 'official' factory team (although they get a huge amount of assistance/funding from Yamaha of course). I would expect an announcement within the next few days |

The Aprilia WSBK bike looks very impressive. Espesially the swing arm...... Who will join Biaggi ? |

It will be great to see so many manufacturers next year. But above everything , I think it is time for Haga to get the consistency and win his WSBK title. |

Ben Spies has been confirmed riding for Yamaha Italia in WSB next year, alongside Tom Sykes. Contracts will be signed tomorrow (Wednesday) apparently. Shane Byrne is also back in WSB after winning the BSB title this year. He has signed to replace Biaggi at Sterilgarda Ducati, so WSB looks like being the hot series to watch in 2009 |

With Aprilia and BMW entering the fray this will DEFINITELY be interesting to watch. Has KTM officially entered a team yet? |

I believe KTM will enter 'selected rounds' in 2009, with a view to doing the full series in 2010 when the 1200cc RC8R is fully developed. There is supposed to be a US based Ducati team in the 2009 championship using factory spec 1098R bikes as well, but I have no idea of who will be riding them. |

Sure would be great if the mothership would sponsor a Buell WSBK team. I can always dream. They're probably far more likely to back an MV Agusta effort, though. Buell will ALWAYS be the red-headed stepchild. (Message edited by jaimec on September 30, 2008) |

He's not from Dallas. He's from Longview, Texas, not ten miles up the road from Kilgore. Go Elbowz! |

ELBOWZ!!! On his first day on the track Ben was lapping at nearly the same pace as Bayliss and Haga in Sunday's race! |

nearly How nearly? I am hoping the Spies makes an immediate impact on WSB next year (as he rightly should) but even a couple of tenths means a difference between 1st and 6th sometimes at that level. I also found the performance of the Wild Card riders Leon Haslam, Cal Crutchlow and Jonathan Rea massively encouraging from last weekends racing. All three were in contention for podium finishes and all three have already signed up for teams in next years WSB series. Another rider who really impressed over the weekend was Josh Hayes. He was unlucky not to have scored a deserved third place in the Supersport race, eventually finishing 4th. Hopefully he will stay in WSS?WSB next year too. |

http://www.superbikeplanet.com/2008/Nov/081104f.ht m For the first time riding that bike on that track? I'd say that's pretty damned impressive! (Message edited by Jaimec on November 05, 2008) |

I think the ideology of the new R1 is impressive too. Finally, something that is actually different from what has been made for so long. Ben's a good rider too. Will be neat. |

Spies tested with "unknown" bike & tires. He was definately impressive getting so close to Haga's time. Maybe WSBK turns out to be better choice than motoGP for Spies. He will ride a competitive bike in WSBK, while in motoGP it would have been a Suzuki or a satelite Honda. I would like to see Xaus and Corser on the BMW and Nakano on the Aprilia. With so many manufacturers and Bayliss out of the equation, WSBK will be great next year. I hope MV, will also join, now they have some cash. Unless HD sees no interest in racing........ |

Oh boy. I'm starting to think 2009 is going to be a case of "Valentino and Casey WHO?" http://moto-racing.speedtv.com/article/wsbk-byrne- spies-and-biaggi-shine-in-portimao/ |

Some interesting results here. Spies was second quickest. The Aprilia's and BMW's are a little off the pace, but not so much that they can't make up some time against competition that is likely more dialed-in: http://www.roadracingworld.com/news/article/?artic le=35154 With the shuffles we're seeing in participants, I'm more excited about WSBK and AMA than I think I've ever been. 2009 should be a fun year. Well, seeing as there is only .6 seconds between first and sixth, I don't know if that falls under the category of "a little off the pace". I'd say that Yamaha, Suzuki, and Aprilia were a fraction of a second behind Ducati, and BMW was just over a second slower than the fastest Ducati. Bottom line is that it appears that WSBK is truly going to be an amazing series to watch in 2009. I'm with Elvis- I'm stoked about next year! |

Portimao WSBK test........... 2 new riders on top. Great news. Aprilias and BMWs ??? 2sec off the pace. It seems that they are not ready yet. Also H-D money give MV-Agusta the chance to enter World Superstock. Great. Will this affect Buell racing? |

Spies is a major talent and (when I met him) a nice guy. I hope that he is a contender in WSBK. I expect him to move on to MotoGP in the not too distant future too. |

I think you all are forgetting Nicky. Specially now that he is with Ducati. He has no excuse that the bike sucks. Spies is over rated. He should have signed with ducati instead of YAmi |

Aren't we supposed to forget Nicky? He's in MotoGP, and isn't this thread about WSB? As for Spies, he's gonna do fine. |
