Will be changing heads to T-storms due to a bent valve in stock rear. Bought the bike like this as the gear cover was taken off to change a gasket and cams came out. When put together and started it bent a #2 push rod and valve. When I take this all apart how do you line everything up & does piston have to be at a certain position so as not to mess up timing? |

Get A Service Manual!!!! There are a series of dots on the face of the cam gears that need to line up. There is only ONE right way to put them in, but it is not difficult if you follow the manual. |

Do have a manual for a 99 Buell, but doesn't say anything about where the pistons should be. Or does that matter? Am worried about putting together and have something bend again. |

When you align the #2 (?) cam (the one with the big gear) with the mark on the crank gear as shown in XL's picture above, you are lining up the cams in relation to the crankshaft, so it is correct by default. You can't go wrong if you follow the picture above. |

Well my bike is a 99 and I'm going to ask (yes, I have a manual and I appreciate your nice clear pics but marks is marks and I just want to be sure) someone to tell me to finish cleaning up and button it up and stop being such a moron. It looks like the pics in the manual, but even they have different marks. TIA (I'm not even a noob mech. I just stress over stuff)
