Bob I've been searching the web for an agenda on the bike show in November? Is this the same show that was in February? I looked on cycleworld page and they either are not the main sponsor this year or it maybe a different show. Let us know over on KC Riders... thanks Jeff |

DAve...Neville said you were really bookin' on the S2 when you passed him on 44...Thanks to you and Josh for coming out...WOW, what a turnout for such a crappy day...I think everyone was trying to get in one last ride...Okay, Josh, so now I'm browsing all things RS 1200 Westwind on the web this evening...Does anyone know of a good written account of the history of Buell's...After looking at Josh's bike I realized how sophisticated some of Erik's early work was so now I am really curious as to how he selected this particular family of engines when the rest of the work was so obviously very forward looking?... We had a very good ride ending at Jack's but all rode home in the rain...Some without rain suits... See Ya! Bob |

Bob, Erik did some interviews on the very subject if you look around. I believe after he had the RW750 and the AMA canceled the series he was looking for a street engine to put in his bikes. He'd been a HD employee for a while and had plenty of contacts, he had ridden an XR1000 in an ?AMA race? at ?Road America? and ?won? and knew the engines had potential, and knew HD had a bunch (2 years after they made the last XR) of the engines built and in a warehouse. I also believe he had to source the last couple of XR engines from dealer stock (who would stock such a thing?) to built the last couple. After the last RR1000 was sold he needed a new engine, was selling the "all american" concept and had the HD dealer network to sell through and thus stepped up to the Evo/4speed motor. After I get the RS suspension sorted (man is it off right now) and do some basic maint (brakes/engine/tranny fluid) I'll let ya take it for a spin. Ask DAve if it's got any pep for a 11yr old. Perhaps the S2 is like that Toyota commercial where the dog runs right into the rear of the car standing still ... or the one where the old man is shaking his fist yelling; 'slow down!" at car parked on the side of the road. You guys know how fast I ride ... that S2 just looks fast! Honest ... no crap ... really. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/4062/16533.html#POST130078 JOsh's RS1200 is QUICK! (Perhaps there is a bit more to THAT one than meets the eye?) Like I posted over on the Quick Board ... that RS1200 is WICKED COOL going down the road at speed. I wish I could have got the camera out while riding. DAve |

No riding until it gets some stuff worked on (like brakes flushed & filled) but I should have it at the StL Intl Bike Show. DAve, we have to get pics of the S2 with my pack. RSS2S1S3P3. I'd like side-by-sides of the "RS" models also (RS/S2/S3) to show the evolution. You know the "vents" in the fairing and tail section (with the alum. grill). The RS has neither, looks like the tail vents showed up in 92 and the fairing vents in 95 on the S2. What I (and many others) don't get is the kickstand on the S2. Look at the RS, look at the S3. WTF went wrong with the S2? Buy your own RS or RSS |
