New to this board...but really interested in finding out the best way to improve performance (without braking the bank) on my XB12s. Love the performance of the 1125, but like the look and size of the XB...I'm sure I not the only one! Please advise. |

American Sport Bike has some numbers posted on the exhaust shoot out. A muffler, k&n and race chip will help. Not talking from personal experience just was looking at that this a.m. |

Cheap, fast, reliable. Pick 2 cause thats all you get. I just wanted to use that. Air filter, exhaust, possible flash, should be good for something. (Message edited by SRWitt on November 04, 2008) |

Talk to Al at American Sportbike. Good gains with K&N,breather mods, slip on pipe and ECM maps. Really want the most get your bike to our dyno shop for custom remap. |

What year? If prior to 2008 go here http://ecmspy.com/ or search this forum for ecmspy. the program can do more for your bike than any other mod, and its pretty much free. Chris |

Great info, but I am looking for actual gain vs. $$$$. Filter+race ECM+slip on = $1000 + Charts show a gain of + 7 hp. What does it translate to? Either in seconds or seat-of-your-pants-o-meter? Cheers to all for your help. |

Race ECM = $200, K&N $50, Special Ops Exhaust $200 Me? I went even further, Micron Full system $1k, Open airbox and catch can $200, Custom tuned, $200. Getting the bike sounding , performing and feeling exactly how I want it, priceless. |

Froggy, so for less than $1500 you got more performance...or a lot more...how can you describe it or compare it? Also, what do you mean by Custom Tuned? Where and what did you have done? Also (sorry, I have a lot of questions ) but are the Micron headers putting out as much heat as the stock ones? (here in AZ with 120 in the summer, I literally cook!) |

I had my bike tuned by Al @ American Sport Bike as he had the exact same setup on one of his bikes so I know it is good. I haven't gotten my dyno up of it yet, but here is my bike when switching from the Drummer to a Micron. Bike has all the mentioned mods but the American Sport Bike remap. Is it significantly more power than stock? No. The bikes are about as good as you can get from the motor right from the factory. Many people leave their bike stock because of that. I wanted a unique look with unique sound, so I paid for that. As for temperatures, I don't know how it compares to the stock pipe. Never have ever felt right side heat, and this is with me owning 2 Buells, riding tons of demos and my cousins 12S. Only time my right leg does get a bit warmer than the left is stopped at a red light for 5 minutes in the middle of the summer. I did this recently, left my bike idling in my driveway to get the temp of the pipes at a few different parts.

Thanks a bunch Froggy. You confirm what I thought. Most mods won't shaved that much seconds, but will mostly be esthetic and sound customization. As for the temp. Here in AZ, it can be unbearable. I am looking into the under-seat and inside the frame heat blanket, wrapping the headers, and possibly adding carbon fiber frame covers (from Germany). Ride Safe, be cool! Frederic |

OK - my take on these discussions about engine modifications is that IF you bought a bike for straight line speed, you bought the wrong bike If you bought a bike for drag racing you bought the wrong bike. If you bought a bike for use in riding briskly through the turns and want to lower your lap times, you have the RIGHT bike. Look at suspension, tires, brakes. Turning and braking confidence and accelerating while leaning and braking while turning-in will go a LONG WAYS to making you a FASTER rider than will horsepower. Besides, suspension work will NOT affect reliability. |

Hey, I get it. More HP wont make me own the corners better!...but after 4+ years on my XB12s...it would be nice to get an extra boost. Just for fun, not drag racing, not top speed. Hey, by the way, what does it take to change the gearing, again to get better acceleration? |

Change to the xb9 front engine sprocket and same xb9 primary chain and you will have all you need.. did that to my 12 2 years ago.. I think its around 8 or 9 percent in the difference.. lose top end who cares but down low she will be a torque monster etc... |

I just bought a 09 xb12r. I really want to put an exhaust on her but, I am confused about the mapping. I know the 08 on models have a different ecu. HELP |

09XB, You should be able to bolt a muffler on without problem. The 08/09 ecm should learn and adjust for it. |

Point Doc, custom map is 300.00, but we may already have a map depending on what combo you have. You are welcome to come by shop and check it out, will do a baseline run for free. |
