Today I got to ride a ZX10 track bike with DOT race tires at Arroyo Seco. I was amazed at the traction of the tires. They give you so much confidence. I was also impressed with the power differential. On my 1125 on Corsa 3's I can get 123 on the main strait. On the ZX I was shutting off way early at 150+. The owner of the bike routinely gets to 170. But I still like my 1125. Just can't wait till next weekend end when I get my new DOTs. |

So, other than the tires, what did you notice about the ZX10 compared with your 1125R, out of curiosity? In terms of handling, acceleration and braking... was it an '08 ZX10? |

It was an '04. I understand it's not a fair comparison between my stock 1125 and this race built liter bike. But it was good experience; I got to feel how the tires and suspension should feel. The Kawi has about $2000 in suspension work. Besides the larger power it felt a lot lighter and you could feel better. There was more feed back from the suspension and the tires felt really sticky. The 1125 suspension and tires are designed for street. Now that my bike is off the street I need to set it up like the Kawi I rode. The tires and warmers are coming this weekend. For the suspension I'd like to get a shop out of Tucson to work on it. They're called Evan Steel Performance and they were reviewed in Roadracing World, October 2008, pg 128-131. The advantage of working with these guys, if they agree to, is that they sometimes frequent Arroyo Seco, my home track. They could be available on race weekends for help. The other thing I noticed was the position of the pegs. Higher than the stock 1125, giving more ground clearance and they were after market. Hopefully I'll be able to find some soon for the 1125. Pariah, thanks for asking. BTW it's only 12 hours from you to Deming. Why don't you come over this winter for a weekend of riding? It'd be great to see another Buell on the track. |

Doug, thanks for the invite--- I may indeed ride over to join you. My 1125R is still on stands, however, as I'm trying to get the clutch back together after a spill at TWS. Too cheap to pay a tech to do the job for me, and I'm waiting on some parts still. And--- the battery just died on me today <sigh>. |
