Many of you know George Deveny. He posts regularly on the BB&D section. He called this morning from a hospital in Asheville NC. He was riding with a friend on hwy 64 when the accident occured. He has 7 broken ribs and a broken shoulder. He was riding his Ducati 1000. Not sure how the bike got loose at this point. He told me he remembers a woman leaning over him to stabilize his head and then some of the chopper ride to the hospital. I'm sure he'll fill us in when he gets feeling better. He hopes to go home in a day or so. His friend said the DUC was in good shape considering. George is my neighbor, a good friend, and riding buddy of Etennuly and me. Best wishes for a speedy recovery! |

"Crashing sucks." Yeah well, it happens to the best of us, doesn't it? If you get a chance George, PM me... I got great strategies for peeing in bed. I think I still got the board record for number of ribs broken in one biff... not a good record to hold. |

I'm doing fine, East Tennessee. I hope George was treated just as well as I was by his riding buds. Salt of the Earth you guys are, salt of the Earth... so nice, I have to say it twice. Get well George; lots of roads still left to ride and lots of friends still left to meet. Try not to let the downtime get you too down... and take Metamucil with the pain meds or you'll be pooping a pine cone once a week. The adventure will continue after these breaks [pun intended]. |

"I got great strategies for peeing in bed" I have a collection of those little crooked neck pee pots you aim at just before you pee in the bed if anybody needs some. Hope you folks get all growed back together soon. You got things to do! Rotzaruck!

I talked to George last night. he has been home a couple of days, but sleeping 23 hours at a time. He also had a collapsed lung that required draining. He says he can't wait to be able to shower again after the drain hole heals. He was in good spirits and was impressed that his Journey bags took a hard hit with little damage. He is talking about getting back to his bikes asap but thinks the shoulder will hold him up a while. Take your time, heal well George! You will be back in no time! |

I was only showering after I could poop the first weeks of my recovery... as it turns out, I went 6 days between the first three showers. I know I can speak for George when I say that with shoulder and rib fractures, there is no comfortable position or place to be except in the blissful arms of hydrocodone laced slumber. I don't know why, but the combination of pain and anti-inflammation meds gave me a stiffie every morning. Did I mention I'm recovering at my mom's house? Sleep well George, sleep well. |

Thanks for all of the thoughts and prayers. They mean a lot when all you can do is think about the next pain med dose. Right now, I'm doing well and getting into rehab therapy. It's going on a month and I still can only sleep on my back in a recliner. Still no showers because of the hole in my chest where they drained my lung. ETennUly offered one of his shop boys to help with my sponge bath but I politely declined. Once I can safely drive, I'm going to load my gear in a van for a "show and tell" for folks around here about what worked and what didn't. The only thing I won't show is my underwear. |
