This morning on my way to work I had a little incident. There is a spot on my commute to work were there are no houses and the road is straight and flat for at least a mile. I can also see the edge of the road very well. Anyways I opened up the 1125r and ended up hitting a bird with my helmet at 120mph or so. I was in a full tuck and the bird hit the edge of my helmet. It jolted my head a little but that was it. It did thump pretty good. My question is I know that all helmet manufactuers recommend a new helmet if you just drop one. And I hit a damn bird at a buck twenty two. What do you guys think? |

I would hazard a guess and say that at 120mph a bird strike to your helmet could well compromise it. I'd go with your gut and if it was enough of an impact to worry you, replace it... Peace of mind vs piece of mind, your call. |

I'm no expert, but myself my head is screwed up to much already to take the chance. I'd get a knew one, save that one for a back up. |

You can get a HJC AC-12 for low $$ as it is being discontinued. Try newenough dot com. A helmet is the last thing I'd want to wonder about. |

If your neck doesn't hurt, send me the helmet and I'll wear it. I hit a bird at 60 once and was stiff the next day. The bird hit center just above the visor. I was sitting straight up. Hope you are feeling alright. ,R.D. |

Never hurts to get a new helmet! No way to know for sure if the impact foam compressed without sending it to a company. Personally I would use it as an excuse to get a new one, especially if it is at least 2 years old. |

Still wearing the helmet. As far as my neck it never got stiff or sore. So I decided to keep using my HJC. I may end up buying the new FS-15 Spies replica. I would like to buy a Shoei but I need a new one piece suit before next spring and we all know how much they cost |

Well I finally bought a new helmet. I found a killer deal on a Bell Star. I had tried one on at a local dealer and it didn't feel to bad. So I ordered the blue recoil. It is a very nice helmet. I feel it has the same or better quality of an Arai or Shoei at half the price. It comes with a killer helmet bag with a visor wrap and detailed instruction booklet. So far I am very happy. I will let you guys know how it feels when I can ride in it. (Message edited by white79bu on January 20, 2009) |
