Planning on adding a K&N Filter and a slip-on exhaust. I am not looking for "Track Performance", just to add some boost to stock set-up. I would like to ask for some opinions on the exhaust part. I was considering SuperTrapp with the disc set-up, but have been told Vance&Hines and D&D are also good choices. Any input? Good/Bad/and-or Other about any of the fore mentioned. Also if there are any suggestions of what else I may need to do by adding this 2 items would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, GOMO | ||

i love my V&H, kinda loud, but they all are for the most part. you might end up with a lean condidtion and actually lose power unless you compensate with an ECM or re-jetting. most of these guys will talk you into a dyno tune, and its well worth it if you have the change for it. JMHO Ken | ||

I have had the same problem on what to get for exhaust. You can pick up a Vance & Hines slip on for about 350.00 and their really popular. I talk to a Buell rep at the dealership where I bought my bike and he swears by the Force system which cost 200 dollars more but that includes the headers. They are one solid piece. The link below also has a sound clip for the Force system. You couldn’t find a pipe and headers near as cheap by any othr company. Plus the performance increase is greater then just a pipe. Let me put in a few good words for Two Brothers Racing mufflers. A good product at a fair price and wonderful customer service. The TBR muffler is a little on the quiet side (that's a good thing, sez I) and it held up much better on my bike than a V&H on my sons bike. Don't get an aluminum muffler. Stainless steel or Ti is MUCH more durable and will look much better this time next year. My big advice about mufflers is to get a big name brand from a high volume mail order discount house (that would be American Sport Bike) or from the manufacture. That way you get the newest one available rather than a "shop daughter" that’s been sitting on the shelf at your local dealer for the last four years. If you haven't yet retro fitted a new front muffler mount you should do so before you install your new muffler. The muffler mount is a recall item and will be free to you. Remember too that there isn’t a miracle muffler on the market. None of them will turn your bike into a GSX-R. Some make more noise than others and I suppose one will give more horsepower and/or torque than others but not much. More difference can be had with a new set of headers. | ||

I thought I might add that if I buy a full pipe I just may have a Vance and HINES slip on and a stock silver ceramic coated inside and out header for sale.Check my profile the header can be seen. | ||

I want to get Buell Pro Slip on muffler... I have been told that they are a good. What else is good or bad about them? | ||

Blackbelt, The Buell Pro Series Slip-On is the same exact pipe as the Supertrapp IDS pipe. I have the Supertrapp andd am very pleased with it. It may be cheaper from Supertrapp than from Buell. | ||

I've been thinking about getting the D&D slip-on but I have heard that it's loud. I don't mind loud, but don't want LOUD, if you know what I mean. How does the D&D compare with V&H? I have heard an M2 with a V&H slip-on and I didn't think it was LOUD, just loud. I am sort of shying away from V&H because I have heard that they have reliability problems. Is that true or have they been fixed? | ||

I've been running a V&H and know problems and not to loud unless your really on the gas. But I'm thinking of a full exhaust because I want more HP. | ||

My S1WL came with a Staintune pipe on it. I think it sounds great, and I've gotten a few comments on how good it looks. As for power, don't really know, and not really trippin' over the few HP a pipe will get ya. | ||

ok i thoguht i would chime in again... i bought a Supertrapp, IDS in feburary of 2003, and in June the rear bracket broke, they sent a new replacement.... then just last week or so, the bracket and the weld where the pipe enters the muffler broke, and to top it all off my set screw that holds the baffle dropped out.. so my muffler is all FUCKED! so next season i am buying a D&D. and that be that LOUD is GOOD! | ||

Blackbelt, Is that the new style Supertrapp (i.e. conical front end, integral 90 degree inlet tube) or the old style (flat front end, separate inlet tube)? Front failures were common on the old flat front end pipes, but I haven't heard of any failures there on the newer Supertrapps. I had an old one, it was nice in that it had a separate inlet pipe and I could use it without that inlet pipe on the race header. But the design was flawed, and the inlet broke on those all the time. The new one on my bike has been bullet proof so far. I like it. Al | ||

it is the older style..... was rather dissappointed in it..... makes me warry of the company though.. when after 6 months it breaks 2 rear mounting brackets, and a weld..... know what i mean | ||

yea, but you have a give Supertrapp their due..they fixed all the old problems and did right by a lot of folks that sent theirs back. Not only did they give me a new one, but since I'd polished my old one, they polished the new one for me prior to sending it to me. The new one seems to fix all the old deficiencies and is a pretty nice muffler overall, and I sure like its adjustability. Not sure if you'll be able to get one from them, but they have given new mufflers to many people that had front inlet failures. Squeak loud and they may just send you a new one. Worth a try. But I'm a little confused. You bought an old style one in feb of 2003? And SUPERTRAPP sent you a replacement in the old style? Something isn't making sense here. Supertrapp shouldn't have sent you an old style muffler this year, they came out with the new design last year and they undestand that the old one is a lawsuit in the making.. I've got an older carbon Wileyco on my Y2K Ma Deuece . . . . I'll back up all of what thunder sez . . .it's a quality piece of work, seemed to help reduce the HP dip in the middle of the powerband and, for me, makes the right amount of noise . . . no problems in jst sbout the same miles as thunder (almost 8K) ... a little louder than stock, a little less noisy than the V&H can it replced (due to the abysmal engineering and manufacturing V&H applied to that particular project) . .. . only question I've ever had about the Wileyco unit was (is) what affect the necking down on the exhaust tract from 2.5" to 2" has on HP/Torque at what portion of the power band . . . .like a dummy, I never did a stock Dyno run |
