Drained the antifreeze from my coolant system. When I say drain I mean I had 3 hoses off and the drain on the pump out. Didn't seem like enough came out. Filled with distilled water, warmed it up and bled the system per the service manual. Drained that out the same way. Filled with Engine Ice, it only took one jug. Should take ~1.5 jugs (3.2L). Warmed up the engine again. Let it run 15 minutes. The temp stays between 177 & 181. Am I misunderstanding this process? Should the system take more? | ||

Haven't seen the coolant diagrams yet but we've had the engine completely out of the chassis. We wondered the same as you, so literally turned the entire Helicon assembly upside down to try and completely drain. Warning...this engine is NOT light! Use two, at least. Lots came out by this method, tho, I can't see you flippin' the bike...or can you? I wouldn't bet against your will... FYI, same goes for oil. Lots left over within a vertical position. You can't "drain" all the fluids out by vertical status...theres gotta be a cup of oil just left in the head bolt recesses on any given change. Go figure. mm | ||

When I put Liquid Performance in my bike it only took 1 bottle. It seems to be fine. I have since done 2 track days with no heating problems. | ||

Not sure of the correct procedure as outlined in the Service Manual, but draining out *all* coolant requires the thermostat to be removed, doesn't it? Did you drain out the engine while it was cold? Just curious, 'cause this is how I have to do it for my car... I use a garden hose to flush out all the old coolant, after removing the thermostat. (Message edited by Pariah on October 27, 2008) | ||

i start mine up with the lower end of the r/side radiator hose disconnected, feed clear water with a hose into the water pump opening at the thermostat and run until clear water comes out the radiator hose. i then quit adding water and keep the bike running until most of the water quits running out the hose. shut off motor, reattach hose and then fill radiator with proper mixture of coolant, start bike and keep adding while running until full. cap it, service overflow, go for a ride and check level after returning. service as necessary. i think you still have quite a bit of antifreeze in yours doug. tim |
