My bike is off the street now and it just gets used for trackdays. How often should the oil & filter be changed? |

A good race mechanic would inspect BOTH after every race...no matter car or bike or whatever else. There is a lot of information that both contain as to the condition of the internals. While this is not "cheap", the signs of a more expensive loss can possibly be avoided through a simple freshening, if found to be warrant. You can't find it if you aren't looking for it...it kinda finds you! At the very least, sample it, at its lowest point...IMO, mm |

I did 4 track days with my 1125r before changing it. I would be ok with 3 track days then change the oil. But I run Amsoil or Mobil 1. |

Every 3 days in my Triumph 675. The oil has been clean and looked good every time. That being said, oil is cheap and motors cost lots! |

(couple a year) I'm always SHOCKED how much smoother the tranny is when I've had the bike serviced. It's such a difference I kind of wonder if the 10,000km service interval isn't a titch long? Might it pay to change the oil every 5,000km and do the regular full service every 10k as scheduled? As long as it's done correctly, you just can't damage a bike replacing it's fluids. |

I change the engine oil, filter and tranny oil every 1000 miles on the XB and will be doing the same to the 1125R. I will also change out the 1125R oil and filter at 150 miles from new, it will then have the oil and filter changed at the 620 mile service, then the 1000 mile frequency will be used - as has been said oil is cheap - engine rebuilds aren't |

Track bike= After 3 track days. Street bike= Factory recommendation (every 5,000). If I changed oil on my street bike every 1000 miles I'd be changing it about every 3-4 weeks... Ain't happening! |

I don't care about street intervals. The manual tells you those. It's the trackdays that I asked about. How about after every weekend? At Arroyo Seco trackday weekends (once or twice a month all winter) are two days long. It sounds like I would be within everyone's recommendation. Thanks for all the input. |

It not the oil you really need to worry about, it will last. Its what the oil will tell you as mentioned above. If you go too many track days without an inspection, you can miss a problem thats starting. A good habit to get in to is an oil filter inspection. Once you take the filter out, cut the element off, with a razor blade, and fan it out. If there is any internal problems you will see it right away. ie metal or plastic. If you do that and its clean your good to go. You could even run the old oil again for a extra track day or two if you used a clean pan to catch the oil. As this is a new engine, you never know what might happen down the road. Catching it early can save a lot of money. |
