Cool..luv seeing other 'bolts. BTW, got my headlight(s) recall work done today at RPHD. I'm interested to see if it makes a difference tonight. Anyone else have it done yet and can you tell a difference? (Message edited by shadyplace20 on October 22, 2008) |

I saw you when you were here. I meant to touch base with you. My smoke break was over and you were still getting your gear off when I had to go back. I was the bald guy with the goatee. As for the h/l, it does make a difference, the question is will it last. I had mine replaced twice before and they improved dramatically, but gradually got dim again. I have got to raise mine up a little or take the brow out of the low beam. The cutoff made it rough when I was in Suches, the whole inside of the curve is pitch black riding to cabin from TWO. |

Mike- Those night time rides in Suches inspired me to finally add some driving lights to my Uly. |

Jim- That's ugly stuff. How many miles were on it when it happened? Any plans for a replacement yet? |

Spike - It had 53k on it. Everyone seems surprised that it would fail that soon. I have not heard of any Ulys on this board with engine failures. I guess someone had to be first. There is a replacement plan, but it's somewhat tentative at the moment. It is very nice knowing Mikethebike (who took those pictures) and having him to walk me through all this from the dealership end. |

Is there anybody locally that has ECMspy and is willing to spare some time this weekend? I'm trying to diagnose a pinging problem that just showed up in the past ~2 months. I've gone through most of the basics, but so far the bike still wants to ping under part throttle, even in the ~60 degree temperatures we've been having recently. I'll post a more detailed writeup in the XB board when I get a chance. |

Anyone up for "Michaels" on Sunday? Looks like the weather might be ok for some gawking at bikes and blasting the roads around Jordan lake. |

Jim, that is the most definitive definition of the term "dropping a valve". It looks gnarly, but it can be repaired. A broken valve spring can be a nasty catalyst. |

Spike, you might check for oil in the combustion chamber. You can look at the plugs through a scope or a magnafying glass. Oil will travel up the threads even if it isn't visible on the electrode. If you lift the crush ring away from the base you will see oil residue. You could also check for an air leak(exhaust or intake). |

Mike, OK to mail this?
quote:Mr. Ray Price Ray Price Harley Davidson/Buell 1126 South Saunders Street Raleigh, NC 27603 Dear Mr. Price: I am an extraordinarily happy customer. My Buell motorcycle, which I bought from your dealership in late 2005, recently suffered an engine failure. Your technicians later determined this was caused by a broken exhaust spring, which allowed a valve to drop into the rear cylinder, extensively damaging the top end of the motor. Since the warranty had expired seven months before, I assumed I was on my own at this point. Two of your employees, Mike Miller and Randy Hamme, felt that these engines should not fail with only 53,000 miles. Randy contacted Harley Davidson and convinced them to cover the engine under their goodwill program. Mike kept me informed as to what was happening and what my options were. I am extremely grateful that your dealership has treated me so well. I have already spoken with your grandson, Jordan, about purchasing another bike. I look forward to doing business with you for many years to come. Sincerely, Jim Nance

Between Jim and Mark this week, I think Ray Price has earned a few more customers for service, even at twice the distance as our closest dealer. Way to go Ray Price! |

I ditto the comments about Ray Price. We have two C3'ers that they have really taken care of in the last week. They also put my front wheel bearings on my Uly with almost no notice. Way to go Ray Price! |

Nance, I'm sure that's a load off your mind. Glad to hear it! I'll be planning to take the xb to Ray Price next spring for a fork oil change. That is, if I can afford it when the time comes. |

Hugh, I'm really sorry for the loss of your mother. I recently lost my father and the estate settling has been tough. Although Twig and I won't be able to make it to the Chapel Hill area next weekend (painting project), I sincerely hope you two have a good time. |
