Is there a Buell in Timbo's future?

Or present for that matter?

Patches? We don' need no stinking PATCHES! Oh, sorry that's getting a little old. I would be honored to have a patch. Gimme the info. And I do have a mighty fine Team Elves T-shirt that gets worn regularly.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

When dealing with ANY problem relating to Buell bikes, please try to separate the dealer experience from the factory / CS experience.

Had I not called up Buell CS I would have thought SOOOO many things...

1) Buell screws up their orders to the parts department

2) Buell is unwilling to repair or replace my in-warranty under 500 mile engine

3) Buell doesn't hold itself accountable for its mistakes

4) Buell doesn't care about its customers

In response, here's what I found out...

1) The DEALERSHIP ordered the wrong parts and someone (possibly not in the know) blamed it on Buell. The dealership also DELAYED ordering the parts for no known reason.

2) When I called Buell and explained my frutrations, they had a brand new crated motor shipped out in 2 business days WITHOUT CONFIRMATION FROM A BUELL FACTORY CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN. This was based on MY assessment of the mechanicals and the poor repair.

3) The engine in #2 above was mis-marked AT THE FACTORY with Loli's serial # instead of mine (since they were both in the same name). BUELL cought the mistake. BUELL admitted the mistake readily. BUELL said the bad number was unacceptable. BUELL sent ANOTHER engine out!

4) First, see #s 2 and 3 above. Then, realize that in December '01 / January '02, Buell heard my distant pleas of countless unsatisfactory dealer encounters resulting in a bike I had no confidence in. I readily made it clear that I felt the problems were dealer induced and that in the 6 months of owning my Blast I had NOT had the New Vehicle Ownership Experience. They worked something out with the dealer who took my 3500 mile '01 Blast in trade for a brand new '02 Blast.

Nobody's perfect. Not every bike is perfect. However, I have a hard time believing the Buell DELIBERATELY screws anyone knowing that they LOST money rebuilding 1 top end and sending out TWO brand new engines on a bike that retails for $4500 in California.

Again, don't let the dealer be the sole face of Buell. CALL BUELL CS. Get another side of the story.

No surprise, I suppose, that I'd going to echo what you say:

1) Buell screws up their orders to the parts department.
They did, They listened. The lesarned. They are much better. They are not perfect. They are fiercely committed to being perfect. Dealers often (an admitedly subjective term) hold off ordering Buell parts until they have some threshold quatity.

2) Buell is unwilling to repair or replace my in-warranty under 500 mile engine
Trust me, your's was not the first. Buell does not make engines. Draw your own inferences.

3) Buell doesn't hold itself accountable for its mistakes.
Well, there used to be a "hey, it's not our fault" thinking in some places as refugees from the Mothership populated some new roles. Now, I see a spirit of "hey, when you are doing some of the things we are you're bound to make some. Deal with it, fix'em and get on with life" attitide.

4) Buell doesn't care about its customers.
Trick Question, as Buell could be a noun or a Pronoun.
Pronoun: Absurd. Wasn't that long ago that I lamented to BUELL (the pronoun) about an S-2 owner having to miss an upcoming weekend event due to parts unavailable. Never said a word to me, went home that night, took the parts off his S2 and had KW FedEx them the next day as loaners. The benefactor is now an employee of one of the top dealers. He knows committment, cause he SAW committment.

Buell the COMPANY has had it's nose bopped more than once by Court. Sometimes justifiably, sometimes I was completely outta line. They respect me and I respect them cause they are doing so damn much better and truly and totally committed to doing the best they can.

Just my $0.02

Good to see you here Timbo...I'm glad the legs a healing up good too! Your wife was right ...BTW!Oh man...another ex XLer bites the bullet with wanting a Buell. I'm on the fence kind of myself...gonna see if anything comes out in the way of a 1200 cc Firebolt type engine in a Sportster first.

"Speedy" is definitely a good term for Tim....I say last year at the Oct. meet to him as he mounts up for the first run down the track on the Mystery EVO. "Tim...just take it easy on this run & get a feel for the ride...we can get on it later." We go by a pick up the time slip & darn if isn't a qualifier over the old record. Ole Tim was just out on a little joyride! :-) He did "get on it later" & did 7 more MPH on his back up run!

Dale A......proud to have a rider of Tim's caliber.

Hey Dale,
Don't count me out of the XL family just yet. You know the '72 isn't going anywhere. While it's true I'm looking forward to getting a Buell, I do miss my cafe XL already and have been testing the waters to see how much resistance my wife would put up to a future cafe project. So far, tests look promising [:-)

Brings joy to my heart to hear that Buell the Factory cares what us buellers think about them and their product--my dealership experience has left me contemplating alternatives that might have otherwise led to violence or at least fornication...
New to the fold as I am (about 4 months now and ten thousand miles of the 2000 X1) I am plagued by prickly HD technicians who seem to know nothing about the Buell though it's an authorized Buell dealer (Fort Lauderdale HD/Buell) Earlier today they twisted their last wrench on my beast and I will now travel an extra twenty miles to the West Palm Beach Dealer for service--my bike has been scratched, scuffed and hurriedly half-serviced since I purchased it (Cash with 3-year warranty) I have yet to experience anything but frustration as the bike suffers from a mysterious malady (no troublecodes) that causes it to cutout and sputter randomly.
I've dug through the Vault here and followed several avenues--REzero TPS/Change Sensors/Look for shorts/changed Coilpack/and if WPB can't find the fault and fix it I'll be damned if I'll hang on to the beast as dearly as I have grown to love the Lightning.
I've wanted a Buell since I saw my first S1 in the early 90's--when the Millenium came out I figured they had the bugs worked out--
I called the Harley CS today to lodge a complaint against the dealer for repeatedly lying and otherwise dicking me about--is this Buell CS a different entity? Is there still hope? Tell on...
