Yesterday a guy pulled up next to me and rolled down his window and asked, "Is that bike electric?" I think its time for me to get a new exhaust. And for the guy looking to quite down his buell a couple weeks ago; i think you'll be fine with the stock exhaust and your neighbors} |

That guy who asked you that question must've destroyed his hearing at the disco decades ago. Sheesh! If you can't hear a stock Buell exhaust, you SERIOUSLY need a hearing aid. |

He was probably hearing the fan noise. |

"He was probably hearing the fan noise." He was probably an idiot. Seriously- it was idling, has an exhaust, looks like a v-twin, has a manual transmission that gets shifted... But yes, Spec Ops is in order |

If it saw it at idle, then he saw it shaking a mile a minute too, unless he figured that "electric motor" was SERIOUSLY out of balance! It is IMPOSSIBLE to underestimate the intelligence of the average human being... |

Well I guess the stock Buell muffler must be quiet.Mine already had the Race muffler when I bought it.I personally think I would like it louder.I was heading home the other day in my truck and a fellow went by me on a new lightning and I could NOT hear the bike.I couldn't believe it.What the heck is the point of riding a H/D motor if you can't hear it.If my bike was that quiet when I test rode it I would NOT have bought it.I love the sound of those twin cylinders.Peace |

Maybe the term "Lightning" made him think it was electric. Should have bought a "Firebolt." Gas makes fire so it can't be electric. Firebolts are faster too. Especially the white ones. The stocker is too quiet. When I go riding with my friends, I can't even hear my Buell. I'll upgrade to Special Ops next year. |

I'm amazed at how many deaf people ride Buells. What is WRONG with you people that you can't hear your own bikes? I wear earplugs under a full face helmet and I can CLEARLY hear my exhaust with the stock muffler in place. |

+1 Jaimec, perhaps they mistakenly bought the 1 cylinder model, or they partied too much at woodstock. |

I can't hear crap anymore. Served too long on different Navy ships. My work spaces were always below the water line and that F@ck!ng Sonar is loud. Ear drum cracking loud! It is definitely not like it sounds in the movies. All the bells and whistles over the ships intercom did not help either. I do wear ear plugs. Not for the sound, but more for the wind pressure in the ears. I don't feel as tired when I wear the plugs. |

Same thing happened to me in January. Passed a couple in a Tribeca in central California. Stopped at the next rest stop to stretch my legs. A few minutes later they pulled in to ask if my bike was electric. I made sure to give it full throttle on the way out. Hopefully the Drummer SS is loud enough for people to hear. |

got pulled over yesterday, not for speeding, some other bs, and the cop says, "i don't know why they build these damn things so loud, all they do is irritate other drivers, i can't even hear my radio over that thing. do you ride it for the noise, or to give girls a vibration?" i guess the drummer does its job on the 9r. no ticket btw. nothing to cite me for. they thought i was some smart a@@ kid. lol |

Ha, you fooled them, you're not a smart kid. Oh, wait... For fun, call the Police diversity and ask what the officer could have meant by that comment about girls. Keep a straight face. |

i left out part of my post. gf distraction. don't ask. when a v-twin sounds electric you should have your own poster in the motivations poster segment in the quick board. wardman you sure the dude wasn't messing w/ you? unless you're deaf you know its not electric. archange- i worked really hard at keeping my mouth shut. another comment the cop made was "i don't know why they build these crotch-rockets, they incite people to speed" my abrupt comment- "was i speeding?" annoyed cop- "no" i decided to shut up before i mouthed off and got arrested. btw wardman not tryin to jack your thread, just answering archangel's comment. blow it off. probably some ricer trying to get under your skin. |

I hate cops. Not the show. P3 those cops are not the exception but the rule. Should of told him his badge incites him to be a douche bag, and that you don't know why they give you guys those things. What an ass. Does your screen name relate to the P3 bicycle by chance? |

wardamneagle d&d sounds sweet and guaranteed not to sound even close to electric. dude pulled up next to me on a 12 w/ d&d and drowned out the drummer on my 9. personnally glad i went w/ the drummer. loud enough for me, but not deafining. gschutte- nope, the p3 is for the first blast i had when i discovered this board. can't change the name so i left it. these cops just struck me as haters, lookin' to give a kid a hard time. they were shocked when i pulled off my helmet. |

Xbgeorge: You mean to tell me that My Boatswain Pipe on the 1MC was not music to your ears? well you probly never heard me pipe or do chow. haha know what you mean man. the ships are loud. I never realized how much if affected me till i got out and into a rather soft spoken job that i have to have people repeat them selves 3-4 times. so yes my stock pipe is to quiet. |

My opinion is that the D&D is just stupidly loud. Your better off just taking the stock pipe off, running open headers and saving yourself a few bucks. |

since i learned to roll my eyes really well from the kids that come into my office, when some jackass says something so stupid like is that "electric" is just roll em'. makes them feel really stupid. maybe carry a canned boat horn, and when someone says something stupid like that, just blow it in their face. then say yep, it's electric. that'd be fricken hillarious. the look on the face would be priceless |

Tell them it's actually nuclear powered. That almost all the new bikes are nuclear anymore. |
