Author Message   Xl1200r Posted on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 - 01:16 pm:        I'll likely be starting to run in the Intermediate class at trackdays, which requires a non-glocol based coolant. What are folks using? I don't want to run Water Wetter - I'd like to use something I can leave in the bike all year and not have to worry about it freezing on me. This is what I've found: Engine ice (-27 degrees) 7th Gear (-35 degrees) Evans NPG+ (-40 degrees) Are any of these better than the others?   Zack3g Posted on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 - 03:57 pm:        engine ice is what i run in mine, and i've noticed a definite drop in operating temperature.   Xl1200r Posted on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 - 04:04 pm:        I was leaning towards engine ice myself, just need to make sure the -27 degree freeze point is accurate. The bike is stored indoors, but places not far from us have woekn up to morning temps of -20. Coolant is a non-factor until the thermostat opens at like 163 degrees.   Blublak Posted on Thursday, October 23, 2008 - 03:48 pm:        Before you make the switch, check the rules with your track day org. Some of them have different requirements regarding coolants; My primary TD provider will let me run any non ethyl-glycol mixture, however I did four dates with an organization that insisted on Water or Water-Wetter - so to satisfy that, I put in Water-Wetter and will be changing it out soon (Nov. actually after my last track day of the year).. You don't want to have to keep changing fluids back and forth for different events. So plan ahead and you will only have to do one change instead of multiples. If I wasn't thinking of doing that four day event again, I'd go with Engine-Ice.. And that's my 2 cents worth..   Xl1200r Posted on Thursday, October 23, 2008 - 03:56 pm:        Blub - I totally understand, but Water-wetter won't work for an everyday coolant for me. The riding season for me starts in March and ends in November, but we'll get freezing temps into April and starting again in October (we've already gotten flurries). Thanks for the heads up, though. Looks like the main track day organization I would ride with allows Engine Ice, but the other I may participate with only allows water and water wetter, though it's for advanced riders only, so I'll be okay for at least a season.
