I love stories like that. They recently had a guy that built a Batman Tumbler, and some guy that spent like 20 years building a 1/8 scale Ferrari. Amazing stuff.
I really enjoyed that one. I've seen and heard of basement build before with Hot Rods but they were taken back down and the assembled at another location. This one was quite frankly amazing.
Don't ever drive a real one... It will destroy all your childhood dreams.
I got the chance about 10 years ago. First off there is no graceful way to enter/exit the vehicle. You end up looking like a douche bag. Once in you can't see out very well. The clutch was the second stiffest I have ever driven (first being a Hennesey Viper). It was very nerve racking to get it off the line. The cabin is very hot, and the a/c is almost useless. I asked the owner about it, and he said it was just the way it was.
The whole thing just ruined my fantasy of what that car was about.
Now I still get a hard on over a Vector W8. I have sat in one, but never had the change to drive one. It is on my bucket list.
A kid I worked for a couple years ago went through 11 of them . . . the funniest thing was when he got carjacked. Kid stuck a gun in his window and told him to get out. . . Sandy couldn't get out, bad guy couldn't get in.
They finally made the switch but two things became evident. . . tough car to steal . . . tougher car to hide in Harlem.
^^^^the rocket propelled subaru, watching behind the green door in the car. The fight when the road is closed where he kicks the two guys in the face in a leaping split and busts his pants.
