Hey guys, I rode up to Carolina Motorsports Park today near Kershaw, SC and met up with Rubberdown, his wife, and Rachel. US Desmo was having a track day and Mike was out there burning it up in the expert class:
Rachel expressing skepticism toward's Mike's claim that "he's going to take it easy" in the next session...

I demoed a TT at VIR. It was a fantastic bike. If I didn't care about 2 up, I'd have one. |

Rubberdown, Ray Price has a GS1200 they took in on trade. What can you tell me about that model? Can one do their own servicing and is this one of the models with final drive issues? |

Nance, The GS1200 is a really excellent bike. I recently spent three full days on one guiding an Adventure Tour. Very comfortable and adaptable to many types of riding. Maintenance is easy. I've done all my maintenance on the HP2 since the 600 mile run in service. It now has 20,000 on it. I'm a BIG fan of the Telelever front end and the switchable ABS brakes. I'm not crazy about the '05 through '06 servo-assist brake, so I recommend '07 and later. It's really just a matter of preference. My '05 R1200ST had the servo-assist brakes and they had astonishing power but I did not like the noise and feel so much. I'd seriously look at the Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA) as you can change on the fly for different suspension settings and it makes changing the suspension for a passenger push button. It works really well. Actually, I've come to appreciate the GS so much that my next bike will probably be an R1200GS Adventure. (I'm keeping the HP2, it's an incredible machine). I've never had a final drive issue with the 4 bikes I've owned so I can't really speak to that. With dual-spot knobbies, the GS is very capable off-road. You have to ride it differently than a 240lb dirt bike but if ridden correctly it is amazing in its capabilities. I believe BMW dealers offer 24 hour test rides, check it out. Looks like it's craigslist day I stumbled across this one. The ad isn't new, but the price is too good not to share ('05 XB9R $3500): http://raleigh.craigslist.org/mcy/861004777.html |

Glitch - what have you found out about having our names put on these? I'd be willing to pay extra! I can do it. It's about $5 or $7 extra. Just let me know what you want your name on and I'll get it put up. I'll do it either tomorrow night, or Thursday morning. Any particular font you would like me to use? Fancy? Script? Block? Grunge? I have all kinds. I'll get with you latter on the font. Good night y'all! |

Shadyplace - If there was a tailbag on that firebolt, and a rider with a white helmet, it's Mike. |

Guilty. Normally I'm heading through there a bit earlier, but I had to stay late yesterday. |
