Jos, so using an XB or Blast rocker cover without the reed set-up does nothing to create vacuum on tubers, correct?

So Fullauto's set-up might be the deal?

Or maybe a wall-mart pcv valve for an 80's era Honda Civic or some other mini-car?

Based on Fullauto's set-up, it couldn't hurt...?

Correct.

ANY PVC, whether vented to carb or atmosphere, is better than nothing. There are a lot of different valve mechanisms out there, different spring-open rates, etc.

If so-and-so says theirs works well, and they're not making money off of you for buying it, I'd say try it!

Jos,
No sweat. It's discussions like this that really get things hashed out.
We'v had MANY of them over the years here on BWB.
I'm going to have to check one of the "PCV" valves I have from my M2, the motor is in a box right now, just need to figure out which one..
I could have swore I did the old "suck" test when I first put them in.
Then again, maybe I was sucking on a beer at the time and got confused!
I won't be able to check until Wed or Thur. Got a couple of long days coming up...

Was just wondering if it wouldn't be good to have a small pressure in the crankcase. This would help the scavenging pump.

OK, just to review;

A. we want venting on the downstroke to relieve pressure:
1. to prevent gasket weeping
2. to eliminate turning the engine into a tire pump, robbing horsepower...?

B. we want vacuum on the upstroke
1. WHY?

I imagine that lower pressure "under the pistons" would increase blowby, but I defer to others on this.
Also, won't vacuum rob horsepower?

I think I know the answer, no, but would like to hear from those who actually do know

It's my understanding that we don't develop much of a "vacuum" on the upstroke, due to blowby, incoming oil volume, etc.

I know that positive crankcase pressure will blow every gasket on the engine.

I visited Auto Zone and found a Luberfiner PC140 PCV valve.

It is intended for Chevrolet/GEO Metro, Sprint (1987-97), Suzuki Swift (1989-94) (GM 96055573; Suzuki 18118-53B00)

It has no spring valve, just a floating ball valve.

Is this too big, too small, for Buell tubers?

They have oil filters too PN PH7022 for Harley-Davidson Motorcycles (1987-04), Buell Motorcycles (1987-08) (Harley-Davidson 63796-77A) Chrome Filter

Description Inches MM
O.D.: 3.13 [80mm]
Height: 3.41 [87mm]
I.D.: 3/4"-16 Thd.

Lafayette, why the timing hole?
If I put this valve into my breather line, would I be ok?

I guess I need to check the umbrella valves, but my guess is they malfunction by staying open, not closed?

Wal-Mart Super Tech ST8A oil filter
I will get a couple

Timing plug hole: another place to vent bottom end pressure ...

Umbrella valves: that is why "i" went to the BLAST/XB PVC Valves ...

Been using Wal-Mart oil filters for years now ...

OK you guys, enough! The valve system is PCV not PVC! It's not a piece of plastic plumbing, and ANY amount of pressure release from the crankcase is a positive.

Just do it!
