I don't know if this is necessarily the right place to put this, but I thought it would generate the most discussion here. With the Buell components being relatively inexpensive, what about the possibility of using the whole setup on completely different engines? It's limited to 2 injector signals and 2 ignition signals, but that would be satisfactory for even up to a simple 4 cylinder setup (one injector per bank on a boxer is what I'm thinking) with wasted spark; or you could just run multiple systems. You'd have to account for the ignition timing differences manually in the tables with ecmspy as it is setup right now, but that's pretty easy. |

for that matter, would the proven DDFI-2 system, plug into an '08 and replace the POS DDFI-3 system??? Hmmmm |

You'd be way better off to run Megasquirt or Microsquirt with the Buell throttlebodies. Aside from installing the cam sensor, you'd also have to be able to set timing. Think: the Buell is a 45 degree twin. A boxer twin is 180 degrees. A japbike 4 is 180 degrees. A parallel twin is 180 degrees. While the timing between cylinders on the Buell isn't 45 degrees apart (it's actually 315 and 405), it's not 180 degrees like all the other stuff. The range of timing tune-ability (Which controls fuel AND spark) in ECMspy isn't infinite, and it's not enough to reach 180 degrees. Besides, Megasquirt can be had in kit form WAY cheaper than the DDFI componants, works with cheaper GM componants, and gives you the option of speed-density EFI, which is way way better. If you really want to get nice, adapt the Harley XL1200 EFI to your Buell, and get a Race tuner. Then you'd have a hot setup! |

And no, DDFI-II is not a drop in for DDFI-III. No cam sensor on -III bikes, and no provision for crank-sensor firing in -II ECM's. When ECMspy accommodates DDFI-III, it will be the far superior setup. Aside from the poor tuning, it's a better EFI (Way more accurate, better features). Retrofitting DDFI-II would be like installing a carburetor. |
