I just bought an XB9S. I changed the tranny oil refilling with exactly one quart fluid following a thorough drain. But I didn't replace the gasket with a new one and a small leak developed, a little seeping. I've opened her up to put on a new gasket and replace any leaked oil but I not sure what the shop manual (and others) say when they advise to fill to the bottom of the "clutch diaphram spring." The service manual has a photo showing a dotted fill-line that appears to touch the top of the bottom lip of the clutch inspection opening but if I were to fill to that level it would be much more than a quart. Right now the oil seems to be just touching a point at the bottom of the circular plate behind the retainer spring. (I have the bike's back wheel up and the bike is level.) I don't want to overfill! What should I be looking for to determine the correct fill level? Can you advise? Any help appreciated! |

On the sidestand on level ground the oil should just start overflowing the primary/clutch inspection cover. To double check stand the bike up vertical and the fluid should be level with the teeth on the clutch basket primary gear which will lube the chain and the sprockets. |
