So, I've mounted two of those storage tubes on my Uly. Now I need some ideas of what to put in them. They're about 12" long and 3.75" diameter. Right now I'm thinking a roadside tire repair kit and a first-aid kit. What else would be good to have for a daily driver? What specific brands and such do you folks carry around with you? And does anyone have any particular place to buy said items? I don't mind laying out some decent money to get the stuff, as it's something I should have been carrying around for a while. If it weren't for Slowride having a spare spark plug at Buelltoberfest, I'd have been riding a 600cc thumper back to Tallahassee. | ||

I'm going to use one of those tubes for a 33oz. fuel bottle. Even though it's not likely I'd run out of fuel, it might save someone else from pushing their bike for 5 miles...... | ||

What specific brands and such do you folks carry around with you? Based on recommendations from this board, I bought a bunch of individual Allen and Torx sockets from Wiha. I am throughly dissatisfied with them for one specific reason; All of the sockets are assembled using removable tips secured in a generic socket base with a small Allen set screw. The problem with this is that every single Torx and Allen I have says 1/4" on the socket. This represents the size of the drive...not the size of the individual Allen or Torx tip. Only one of the individual tips has the size stamped in (7mm, 8mm, etc). Basically, other than trial and error, I have no way of determining what size each socket is. Also, even though I've tightened all of the set screws, the tips contentiously fall out while stored in my top case. Huge thumbs down for Wiha. I spent nearly $100 on these sockets and will probably sell them on eBay when I get around to it. Tipsy | ||

Here's my kit - what you might not be able to see is a good string-type tire plug kit. I store it all in a small Pelican box mounted on the tail.  | ||

Very cool. I have a habit of putting flashlights all over the bike as well. I have one, in a nylon holster, on the handlebars and one in each saddlebag. I like that kit above and am thinking of loading up the Buell underseat bag. What compressor and tire repair kits are folks liking? | ||

After an ordeal with trying to plug a tire on the road last year, I did a lot of research and settled as this being the best sticky string type: http://www.safetyseal.com/ That said, I let M2NC use it to plug the rear tire on his Uly at Buelltoberfest; he had a very small hole right in the center of the tread from a rock cut. He rode about 10 miles on that plug before it blew out. A second plug (unknown type) lasted about 20 more miles before it blew. When the tire was changed, it turned out to have a lot of damage on the inside so this probably wasn't the fault of the plug. Court - Cant have too many flashlites - or too much fuel...unless your on fire. I have a $30 slime pump - my riding partner carries the $100 motorcycle pump. They both push air and have used them to fill completely flat tires. The high cost version may ultimately last longer (thats only an assumption - not yet a fact) but so far doesn't work any better in the real world than mine. j | ||
