While waiting for my Time-Sert spark plug thread repair kit to arrive I have the heads off and am cleaning things up a little. After 54K miles there is a ton of "oily spooge" in the intake ports! Almost as bad as the EGR on my diesel car. I cleaned most of it out, but man, there was a lot. Anyone rerouted the CCV hoses? I think I will.. BTW the cylinders still have lots of hone marks left. |

I don't remember who it was but another badwebber claimed he had the same problem of having lots of oil spooge in the intake ports and fixed it by replacing the newly designed intake valve seals with some different type. He swore that the newly designed seals were total crap. You may have the same problem he saw. I haven't looked at mine so I wouldn't know one way or the other. I'm not going to worry about it until I have to yank the heads. Hopefully that won't be for a long time. BC Steve |

Re-routing the CCV hoses was the first mod I did. It keeps the oily gunk out of the intake and smooths out the 2-3K range a lot. You can use a catch can or just a long bit of hose as the catch can ( that's what I did ). There seems to be a thread by this one called "Drummer Catch Can" talking about just that. There is a nice step-by-step how-to on this site or on buellxb but I can't seem to find it right now. Good to know the inside's are still in good shape after 54k. Having my bike down this last few weeks with a bad wheel bearing has made me wish I had a "backup" bike to ride. I won't have one as nice as yours but I'd like to have a small KLR or something like it that I can ride to the true off-road trail's anyhow. Keep riding and thanks for the post's and ride reports.
