Greetings. New to this board. I have a question to which I cannot find the answer by searching. My bike is totally stock. I have not removed the solenoid, and I have not yet had the new ECM flash (took it in last week, but the dealer couldn't get the new flash to take--will go back soon and also have latest recall done). In fact, I have not even got the tranny jet recall done yet. My bad. My question is this: Is the new ECM flash INSTEAD OF the stumble fix by disconnecting the solenoid? Or does disconnecting the solenoid provide further benefits that the new ECM flash does not? Thanks in advance. |

who said and why are you disconnecting anything? re read your recall notices and talk to your tech. The reflash takes if you go through the procedure correctly.. some techs think an error occurs because in doing the reflash it goes through the process twice. |

My bike was the first time he had tried to do the new re-flash on an 1125r. He said he was going to talk to the powers-that-be at Buell. I'm sure he'll get it figured out. I need to go back anyway, as he did not have the parts yet for the other recalls. Anyway, the disconnection I was referring to was the solenoid at the fuel intake. It has been discussed many, many times on this board. My question is, does anyone know if the new ECM flash takes care of the stumble problem that people were previously fixing by disconnecting the solenoid? I guess another way of putting it is, has anyone who previously disconnected the solenoid, now re-connected the solenoid post-flash, to see if any stumble shows up again? |

Thanks, Buzzie. I agree that it does not seem advisable to disconnect something on the bike, but there can be no doubt that many posters on this site got good results from that. Indeed, both Buell and Markel Engineering sell parts to make that disconnection work well--there seems to be no downside, except that it may void the warranty. Apparently, the only thing this solenoid does is keep the bike barely within noise limits. Please, someone, correct me if I am mistaken. I'm just wondering if there is any reason to do both the flash and the solenoid mod (e.g., they address different problems) or if disconnecting the solenoid is not worth it post-flash? |

Yo Buzzie! What's up? I have the solenoid disconnected on mine. To keep within EPA noise guidelines, the solenoid closes the throttle slightly if you hit 5000RPM in 3rd gear at 100% throttle. Not having the solenoid connected also makes the throttle seem lighter. The solenoid also weighs about a pound. |

Buzzie's getting a bit buzzed over this; the solenoid disconnect is a popular mod on this board. Here are some links: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/370016.html?1213971605 http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/disc us.cgi?pg=next&topic=290431&page=399298 http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/392706.html?1220819987 When my own 1125 arrives I'll certainly consider the disconnect. Meantime, my reading of this Board (no personal experience here) is that the solenoid and reflash experiences are to be enjoyed separately. |

the $6 Buell part and the 20 minutes it takes to disconnect are well worth it. not only does it remove the stumble at 3rd WOT but I was having issues with the soleniod allowing the butterflys to move at other times over bumpy roads. After removal a whole new bike. then with 2nd flash it only gets better. |

Buzzie has the "correct" answer, and if you take your bike to a dealer with the solenoid disconnected and complain it runs rough be prepared to pay them to reinstall the solenoid before they start looking at it. I don't work for Buell so I can tell you to yank it |

hahaha welcome back I guess Buzzie. So I just had the 3rd reflash done. Bike still stumbles in 3rd when you go WOT in 3rd. And it may just be me, but I had it MUCH more pronounced. I'm talking, twist throttle, start to rev, then zilch. One thousand, two thousand, thre-POWER. It was something I was trying to induce so I didn't need the power, but it was still disconcerting none the less. Mod here I come! |

that is the biggest reason why they are disconnecting the solenoid cable. tim |

Hey guys & gals. Reflash recall worked on mine. Fuell vent still leaks MORE! I'm gonna keep it at 1/2 full from now on. Side stand spring so far so good, stronger than the black spring!! Smoke, get the reflash!! You'll b happier! Engine brakeing is deminished a lot, but ztl brakes will slow u down. Power wheelies like mad after reflash, so be expecting some sky!! RIDE on BRO's& SIS's be safe!!! |

hi guys, some news from france. I'm the happy owner of a 1125r mostly the only one of north of france. I've done the reflash and remove myself the solenoid and i've got a fantastic buell. The question of the solenoid is very simple to answer, i would say it doesn't give you more power but you have much more reaction. The 1125r become more nervous and get faster on the rear wheel. Now to remove the solenoid it's so simple, just go to the intake and you will see the solenoid at your right with a cable going to the butterfly, just disconnect it of the butterfly and then strap it or unscrew the cable from the solenoid (best). Like this you won't have any engine's error. 1125r rocks, this is the best bike i've ever drive. |

Ok, another question: After unplugging the solenoid and then dealing with the cable, you can then plug in either the Buell part or the Markel Engineering part so that you won't get an error message? Is that right? Also, can someone give me a link to Markel Engineering for their part? I cannot seem to find it online with google. Thanks. |

Last time I checked Markel Eng they weren't selling and their website was down. Their plug is identical to the $6 one from Buell but they were charging $80. |

I believe that Markel Engineering stopped marketing the part due to the fact that Buell came out with one that was so much cheaper and the part was a limited run part to begin with. I know that they were working on some other stuff though. Mike |

Fpolek, After plugging in the Buell/Markel part, you will still get a Check Engine Light (CEL) with the code P------ on occasion, but it is for information only and does not affect engine performance. The only way to totally get rid of the CEL is by getting the race ECM and turing off the Active Intake monitoring. Mike |

Evening, Gents. I've got the little resistor plug, but haven't found the 20 min. to do the deal. All I know it is P!$$es me off to no end when I'm rampin it up, minding my own business, hit 3rd and brrrrrrrr.... nothing. In my experience, if you get it to engage the friggin nanny effect, and hold the throttle open, it just sits there till you get off then back on. Really irritating. Several years ago I had a Taurus, either an 03 or 04. After I bought it, I was in a situation where I had to back up for about a half a mile down a one lane road. The damn thing has a 20 mph speed limiter in reverse! I grew up on a farm, dammit! I can go backwards just as well (and fast) as forward. Same deal. The computer telling me "Oh, I don't know... I really don't think you want to do that..." just frosts my cookies. O.K. Rant over... <grin> R |

I suggest disconnecting the solenoid and getting the latest reflash. When I bought my bike it had up to the latest, September, reflash/s done, and the 5th gear recall. It ran rough below 4K. I disconnected the solenoid which made it run considerably smoother below 4K although there was still a tiny bit of roughness. I've already received notice to get the latest reflash and will schedule it when I get time. One of the best things we have going for us as Buellers is this forum where tons of info is shared continuously. When I bought my bike I was "caught up to speed" about all the good and bad with the 25r literally in just a couple days. It's absolutely amazing. |
