We now have more new and exciting parts available for the 1125R models. All of these parts have been developed by Free Spirits on their 1125R race bike in the Italian Supertwins championship, and have been used by the Macadam Moto race bike in the French Pro Twins series, so you can be sure that they will work.

The new parts can be found here:

Triple trees http://www.trojan-horse.co.uk/prods/298.html

Bitubo rear shock http://www.trojan-horse.co.uk/prods/299.HTML

Bitubo fork cartridge kit http://www.trojan-horse.co.uk/prods/300.html

Bitubo steering damper http://www.trojan-horse.co.uk/prods/301.html

1125 paddock stand 'bobbins' http://www.trojan-horse.co.uk/prods/302.html

Matt,
Do you have to drill the swing(ing) arm to mount the bobbins? And what kind of rear wheel stand is shown there and would it work with?

that (ing) thing is just to make a Britt happy

New from Free Spirits. CNC machined aluminium paddock stand bobbins specially shaped to fit flush against the 1125R (&1125CR) swinging arm.

Fitting requires drilling of the swinging arm with a single hole either side, but once fitted allows the rear wheel to be removed whilst on a paddock stand.

Price includes hardware.

Fully tested during 2008 on the Free Spirits 1125R race bike.

Looks to be about $60?

Will that damper work on a CR?

They get a little excitable north of 100 @ WFO...

Ah the wonders of a common language : )

Yes you would have to drill the swingarm in order to fit the bobbins.

To be honest this isn't really that scary(but you need to make sure you get it right first time of course!). We did the same on our XB12 racer in 2003 and 2006, and it was far more convenient than using spindle mounted sliders when racing, not to mention safer and more secure.

The stand is from Bike-Lift in Italy, although there are quite afew stands on the market now that will work with fixed bobbins.

I don't know if the damper will fit the CR, as we have yet to see them over here. If the headlight/fairing uses the same mounting brackets as the 1125R model then it should fit I think, but I would have to see some pictures of the mounts to make sure.

Trojan, can I suggest that your website description offer more info on the triple trees than "Lighter, stronger and much more stylish than the originals" if you want buyers to part with 720 pounds! But the new parts you're making available for the Buells, and your posts about them, are much appreciated. Cheers.

Hi,

At the moment I don't have any more information simply because we they are so new, although there really isn't too much more to say. Geometry is the same as stock and material is top quality aircraft spec aluminium.

that's pretty cool they have some new parts but what really sucks about the parts is that there in the uk and almost cost double since us dollar ain't worth shit.

The global financial meltdown is having some benefit to the strength of the US Dollar at least. The US$ has risen in value against UK currency by around 20c since Monday (making imported parts cheaper in the US). I expect the exchange rate to be around US$1.65 = GBP1 by next week (2 months ago it was almost US$2 = GBP1). These parts will never be cheap however, regardless of currency, simply because they are absolutely top drawer quality and made in small batches by craftsmen rather than mass produced by computer.

what's the reason for the big piston rod, looks like a 20/22 mm shaft.

Most suspension units compromise between flex and 'stiction' (frictional losses when the piston moves up and down, and a factor in suspension 'chattering' when it can't react fast enough). A narrower piston rod will suffer less stiction but is likely to flex under heavy use, whereas a thicker rod (ooer missus!) won't flex but suffers from stiction more.

Bitubo use extremely close tolerances and high spec materials in order to reduce stiction to the absolute minimum, and can therefore use a much thicker piston rod to reduce flex to almost zero. These shocks have been developed in WSB over the years, so although they are not a household name like Ohlins they have been in there with the best for a long time. Bitubo 'invented' the hydraulic steering damper that we are all so familiar with now back in the 70's.

Trojan, you said "there really isn't too much more to say. Geometry is the same as stock and material is top quality aircraft spec aluminium" -- but as a salesman I can tell you (I'm sure you already know), people buy an item for its benefits (what it will do for them); and from your statement there's no indication that there ARE any benefits. What am I missing?

It seems pretty clear from looking at the picture of Matt's triple clamp hardware that there's a lot less metal there than stock... I don't see the point of giving him a hard time about it.

Even if he said, "OK, it's 50% lighter than stock," in all honesty, what would people do with this information? Plug the data into a detailed physics-based simulation and discover, "Ah yes, if I don't retain water, this amounts to a 0.1% increase in straight-line acceleration and a 0.03g improvement in cornering acceleration. Excellent. Just as I thought!" ?

Do ordinary people buy this hardware for a real "benefit" as you put it, or are they buying it just to have goodies on their bikes? I think the vast majority are really doing it for the latter... they'll get the most benefit from rider training, racing slicks, and a suspension adjustment (as Niall Mackenzie proved in a recent article in TWO magazine).

"are they buying it just to have goodies on their bikes? I think the vast majority are really doing it for the latter...". Really?! Better send all those marketing types back to school, then, because they believe "people don't buy drill bits, they buy holes" (that the bits make). Ask me how I know.

That's not an apples to apples to comparison. People don't love their drills. They do, however, love their bikes...

The damper mounts to a billet clamp that attaches to the left side fork leg. Provided it is fitted properly it will not foul throttle cables or anything else : )

This has been extensively tested on race bieks this season with no problems at all : )

If you look closely at the fork clamp you'll see it is a hinged two piece affair, so you can fit it without removing the top triple clamp : )

This thread was started by Matt (Trojan-Horse Racing, UK). He's a really good vendor (and there aren't that many) who provides great products and service. Why would you want to compete with him on his own thread?

This is the second such post. Freemarket considerations aside, and maybe it's 'cause I'm from Canada and therefore a Communist by US Standards, but this seems in poor taste to me... you Yanks can tell me to go back home, now (depending on how the next election turns out, I may just do that), but I'll still be on this forum, Dammit!
