Extended warranty is SOLD by dealers.
Harley-Davidson / Buell has NOTHING to do with it.
PRIVITY exists between YOU (the buyer) and THEM (the seller)
COVERAGE may, or may not, resemble the MANUFACTUERS WARRATY
COVERAGE is UNRELATED to the MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY, except as provided there in (i.e. "excludes coverage of items that are covered by manufacturers product warranty" )
LIKELY exludes all "recall", "safety", "fitness for purpose" and "abuse" type scenarios.
DEALERS like extended warranties.
DEALERS, at least they used to, mark the extended warranty up a great deal, based on the emotional state of the buyer at the time of purchase and the relative ease with which it can be concealed (beleive it or not, some dealers have been known to tell you they are cutting you a break, only to conceal the cost of the extended warranty as "dealer prep"..ohhhhhhhhh no, Mr. Court, say it ain't so)
Caveat Emptor applies UNLESS things have changed. I had some dealings, while a Buell employee, with these folks and they rank among the shadiest and most "answer evasive" folks I've ever encountered in business. I, in my capacity with Buell Customer Service, requested a detailed schedule of what was, and was not, covered and was told "it's confidential".
I might buy an extended warranty, but I'd not pay >50% of the "list" price.

Tom:

Do yourself a favor, pack them up and send them to:

Little Mikey Kruger
Cycle-Zone

Call me crazy (now that's a stretch) but when it comes to the front end, it's worth having done PERFECTLY.

Tom: Traxxion Dynamics would be worth a call also. They've done all my suspension work, and I've always been very happy with their work, their service minded attitude and extensive experience with Buells (as well as other brands :)).

Thanks for the input.

Like Court, in my opinion, the front end is the end that sets the tone for how the bike handles.

Thanks again.

LE suspension offers service also, for fork rebuilding. They are a little cheaper than Traxxion (at least what's on the website) from (their claim) only replacing what needs to be replaced. Traxxion lists the costs for X1 rebuilds (with new fancy-shmantzy parts) at over $600. LE offers to rebuild for $400, complete. I've never used either service, so this is just prices. LE is at http://www.le-suspension.com

I need your help! I toasted my third speedo sensor and I remember you came up with a choke/diode(?) to protect the sensor, could you post the parts and schematics?
Thanks

I am finding that out with the one that I purchased.

I have learned a lesson in this situation. All I am asking is the dealer to deal with me fairly.

They are expecting it to cost $50 US dollars delivered.

Take a look at ATC on this subject.

In fairness to Buell:

I have posted recently in the poll here that I am unsatisfied with my 00M2. My problems are too numerous to mention and I don't want to really get into it. While reading all of the associated posts it occurred to me that no one seems to post when something good happens. (myself included)

In August I was about 200 miles from home when my bike started spewing oil from what seemed like the base gasket. (front cylinder) I checked the oil, added some and limped the bike to Ft Washington HD/Buell in DC. The long and short of it was that my cylinders needed to be replaced. Bad news is that I was two days out of my extended warranty. After they revived me I was told that since the base gaskets had just been repaired within the last 1000 miles that the my dealer was responsible. Whew! or so I thought. As you can imagine my home dealer was a little reluctant to pay based on the word of another shop. Things went round and round for a couple hours until Buell corporate(with the help of my home dealer and the Ft Washington service folks) got involved. Buell stepped up and paid for all parts (cylinders, pistons, rings, etc) while my dealer agreed to pick up the labor. Obviously Buell didn't have to pick up anything and I can't say enough about that.

As far as my dealer goes, Southside HD/Buell of VA Beach picked up the labor as I stated above and when I went in to get a new rear tire a few months later the GM saw my mileage (around 46,000 at the time) and told me to bring her back in at 50,000 and they would do the 50 service for free. Pretty damn cool if you ask me.

Sorry for the long note, but thought it was only fair that Buell and my dealer both get the credit for stepping up the way they have.

I still remain unsatisfied with the overall situation, but I love this damn bike.

Court-

You were mentioning shady dealer practices. I wanted to relay an interesting experience...

The dealership where Loli and I got our Blasts gave us the bikes for less than list. My then new '01 was around $4k. Of Course, they charged a setup / prep / bend-over fee of $400 - basically evening things out. Right?

Well... The bikes were bought during the trade-up program. These guys were kinda sly. They knew they'd only have to apply PURCHASE price as part of the trade in and that would exclude the hokey setup charge. I do understand that the Blast comes out of the box just about ready to go.

Just something I thought I'd pass on...

Ferris dear, I was amazed at how much booze got drank at the Wilson's ranch ! God knows who was drinking it because it sure as Sherlock wasn't me. Well ok , perhaps a few, oh yeah and Mrs Gusenhoven's Tequila and Margarita mix too, but alas 't is true, I am a social drinker much more than I am a boozer. What's funny about this is some of the boys saw me sipping (not supping)) on one of those 'light' A-merry-can beers and thus branded me somewhat a wuss when it comes to supping ale. Well it's time this 'ale' thing was put to bed.

Up here in the North of England, we (that's us Brit's to you lot) without a doubt brew the best ales in the world, period. No warm beer that lots of my cousins over the 'Pond' seem to believe we survive on over here. That was the stuff we use to give to tourist (amortization springs to mind, he he)!! We brew top quality real ale , like this stuff here in one of the pubs I was supping in last weekend. Don't over do it though, it's strong stuff

ps to Rocket: dude, my new fave bike mag is BIKE -- you Brits are sure a whacky bunch! do you read it? didya get the CD containing all the bike "noise" attached to the October issue? just LOVE listening to the ZX-12R doing zero to 180 to zero, with a stoppie thrown in for good measure!

Oh yeah, 'Bike' magazine. Between that and 'Superbike' and 'MCN', they were the main three I grew up on. 'Bike' was way out on the edge in the 70's, as were some other mags too like 'Superbike'. They spawned stuff like 'Back Street Heroes' and 'AWOL', but these went more down the outlaw road and thus appealed to a different culture in biking. Enter stuff like 'Fast Bikes' and 'Streetfighters' too, and 'Performance Bikes', all of which to this day publish some great reading. Don't get the videos from any of these mag's, they're addictive.

Just tonight I picked up the November edition of 'Bike', and no I don't buy it that often at all. Didn't buy it last month either but I did get the CD, yipee ! But anyway, there's some great stuff in this months copy, including a snazzy shot of the XB9S, in yellow, and that made the purchase unavoidable !!! Lots of the new 'Streetfighter' style bikes are featured, including those concept Guzzi's and the KTM 950. Worth the purchase for sure !!

Here's a snippet from 'Bike' this month. It's Steve Rose summing up the Ducati 999.........

So don't knock it for not looking like the old one. Praise Ducati for being so bold enough to do it. Imagine being the bloke given the job of repainting the Sistine Chapel. That's how hard it must have been. Don't ya think that's kinda cool scribbling ?

:)

Duck....... While reading all of the associated posts it occurred to me that no one seems to post when something good happens. (myself included)

That's not true ! The archives are full of good happenings. Hell even I put up some good words for things Buell, and I of all people have a love-hate relationship with my S1W. I love it, it hates me :) :) :)

We brew top quality real ale, like this stuff here in one of the pubs I was supping in last weekend.

for some reason their pages wouldn't fully load on my computer, but this ale's description "...a strong, hoppy flavour with a nutty aftertaste" kinda reminds me of a lot of the Hooligans here on BADWEB!

what's your favorite ale of theirs?

Oh yeah, 'Bike' magazine. Between that and 'Superbike' and 'MCN', they were the main three I grew up on.

man, there's a TON of cool info in each issue, and Hugo Wilson is actually starting to like his long-term Firebolt.

i think my favorite BIKE scribbler is Dan Walsh, his writing reminds me of yours. very cool piece he did on cruising around on the V-Rod here in America.
