Sounds like a good plan. At least at that point they're not likely to back out of 'the deal', since they agreed on $100. $100 is worth only so much of your time and Winter's coming.

A well worded letter to Buell after you get your bike back may yield some cash (or cash substitutes). But dont expect it.

A friend who owns an at least 8 year old BMW had some trans work done. They fixed it, but then it blew again after several thousand miles and halfway cross the country. A letter to BMW corporate got him a check for the original repairs-$2800. He didnt ask for the money, but the letter did indicate he didnt get what he paid for. THATS customer service.
(I'm not saying Buell wouldnt do that, its just an example).

I often wonder who won this bike.

Reuel,

I do quite a bit of soldering in my other hobby, amateur radio. I would love to see what a DIY kit would cost me.

Problem is after all the parts are surface mounted, I then have to program the controller. The LEDs are too easy to damage if you don't do it just right.

Most of the work is making the PC board. Soldering it all together is really a minor part of the work, so the kit wouldn't be much less than the complete product.

I wondered about that... I was almost sure you were having to make that controller board.

Surely you can find someone in Taiwan to make that thing for a few cents can't ya? : )

Only if I order 10,000 of them at a time! I did some checking on line locally, and the only way I can make it worth my while is to make at lead 500 boards at a time. I can order the chip already programmed, but once again, hundreds at a time to make it worthwhile. But, then, what happens if someone wants a different program? What if someone wants a slightly different light setup, requiring different functions from the same wires? The list goes on ...

Haha I'm sure... I'll just have to see if I can save up some money over the next few months : )

How does that driving light option look in person?

The white LEDs have a warning about retinal damage. They're not great for lighting up the road, but they're definitely visible to oncoming traffic.

Hey guys, thanks for the kind words. The tail was glassed, and the bike was painted by the guys at Copyright1979.com. It was used for a promo shoot about good gas mileage. They are going to start producing the tail and selling it.

Hi ya'll - checking in with a couple pics. After a cylinder head repair (oil leak) and stator replacement, I didn't have the heart to toss out used parts. Thanks to my husband the Blast parts live on...

BTW - I would be remiss if I did not say THANKS so much for all the help and information needed to get the repairs done. I could never say enough how much I appreciate the information I get here.

Every time someone asks me questions, I never miss the chance to point them in this direction. You guys rock!

I would be interested in the tail section if they removed the pointy part.

At around 43,000 miles I noticed a small weep of an oil leak - so gasket replacement was in order, especially before long ride to Texas. Once off, inside looked great - the piston head had only slight wear marks, but again, since we had it apart might as well do good maintenance. Leak was only reason for tear down - compression was great, was not burning oil, etc. Just wanted to make sure leak did not get worse. Replaced piston, rings... HD would only sell the piston and jug as a unit, hence the plant holder! Stator went bad at around 51,000 and chain guide and tensioner shoe had slight wear. I love the creative side of my husband, but would rather see the rest of the parts remain on my bike rather than sitting on my desk at work!

While I had it apart for the CR clubmans I thought I would 'take in' the stock signals. I think I read about this little mod here, but don't see a lot of bikes with it done. The signals hanging out like Texas Longhorns always bothered me. So this was a quick and easy fix. I just put the spacer on the inside.

signals

As you can see, I also shaved the windscreen brackets and repainted them.

Here they are 'Locked and Loaded'. A good amount of clearance.

Ready to ride! Found some cheap risers (soon to be powder coated). All said and done about $200

I am super envious. How does she ride? Can you post a pic of you sitting on it to see how much you have to lean over?

It is a much more aggressive riding position. Feels like a difft. bike altogether. Maybe even a little faster

I'm off to work, but can post them later!

Fly makes the spacer, I will pass along the info when I get home later tonight.

Yes I will go all black, but maybe with some hd/skully levers. But those sound good too!

That looks absolutely awesome! The flat black is SO much better looking than the gloss black used in the superbike bars. I even like those spacers. Were they needed for clearance to lock the bars? It looks like you might have still had plenty of room without them.
