Ok, so I have had the bike for about 2 months, and about 1000 miles. I haven't burnt a single drop of oil that I can tell. Whats wrong?!?

Actually it says "Harley Davidson - Unknown Model" Good ole Indiana. But seriously..... I check the oil as per this site about every week after my 25 mile ride home. Not a single difference between checks. Should I be concerned, or just verify that I am not losing any oil when I change it for the winter? |

Did you wife the dipstick off before you checked it? Maybe it's dry and it just looks wet. Maybe you forgot to add oil and you just think there's oil on the dipstick. Ok, back to reality. Did you go WOT or thereabouts a lot during initial break-in? If so, maybe you seated the rings so well that you'll never use oil. |

I bought it used, so that may just be the case. I tried to take the dipstick to her, but she wasn't going to have any of that. Anyways, I will know here in a couple weeks when I change the oil next. |

Indy, come ride with me...I bet It'll use some oil then...mine uses a tad...but not very much since I switched from dino juice to Mobil 1 V-twin oil...couple of ounces in about 500 miles. I know mine is well broken in...it has 4,900 miles now...and a lot of that is spent at WFO...BTW...Indy did yah get my E-mail? |

Well, not all use lots of oil, whether it be dino or synthetic. Due to manufacturing variances, some engines come out tighter or looser than others. Break-in or abuse can also affect it as well as riding habits. Other factors can contribute too. Mine use very, very, very little oil, whether it be WOT (7500rpm) or not, dino or synthetic. It will consume oil if I use thinner than recommended though. I've also redone both top ends which means I paid much closer detail to the engine than the factory. |

Mine uses a bit of oil. Some day (how many years have I been saying this, now?) I'll be going either 515 or 600 with higher compression. I'll BREAK that bugger in! |
