Yes, our friend Mark (Wolfridgerider) had a little mishap this morning in (my best Allen Iverson voice) PRACTICE!! I arrived just as the finishing touches were being done on this temporary repair to run the 30 minute mini endurance race, because fenders and fairings are overrated. i forgot to take a pic of how she looked after the 30 minute race when we put the fairing and fender back on. I'll let Mark tell all the other issues of the day, but I figured I'd get the ball rolling since I got pics and he told me to post them. BTW, if anyone in central Ohio has any really good pain killers, I'll be willing to bet that Mark will pay top dollar for them tonight or tomorrow for sure. Before pic, earlier this season-- After the first round of band aid repairs to get in the 30 minute endurance race--

Most likely, that and trying to pass heavy weights on the outside of turn 1 in practice may have had something to do with it. |

Don't they re-tech after a crash? I'm surprised they let that back on the track... Glad you are OK. Shoulda had an S bike. Or maybe now you *have* an S bike |

I had all the crash parts in the van. What I didn't have was time. The tires I had on looked like shredded wheat from Mid Ohio. I thought they would be good for practice... I was wrong! What happened was the "typical" in-line four riders passed me in the straight and then parked it in turn one.... I chopped the throttle had plans on staying behind them.. it was practice! They kept slowing down to fast for me so I started to fade to the outside for a "quick" pass..... As soon as my front tire hit the large "patch" in turn 1 it was over. The front tire washed out and the next thing I know I'm in the soft soft grass of Nelson.... sliding... turning... rolling... This should be a ride at Kings Island! The bike and I came to a slow stop and I jump up to let the corner worker know I was OK. Then I saw the bike.... F%CK!! Front end was wasted.. right side peg, gone.. left side handle bar, gone.. steering damper, bent.... and everything was packed with mud. Then I had the ride of shame back to the pits on the... "This is the guy that caused the Red Flag trailer" We can rebuild it!.... But it wont start!! The starter relay was missing! I ran/walked out to turn one to find it.. NO LUCK! The answer to this problem = BILL SMITH! He was running his 9 in the LWT Mini. He said I could use his... COOL!! Now the race is on to get the bike ready to RACE! I grab the Box-O-Crash parts and we get started. With the help of several people in the pits we get it running and "track ready" I run over and ask the Race Officials if I have time to change my tires.... The told me to go for it, they would hold the start..... To bad the didn't tell the guy in the tower.... I was getting the front tire on when "FIRST CALL FOR RACE ONE" Get started on the rear tire.... the sliders a so jacked up I can't get a socket on them!!! "SECOND CALL" Get a socket on with a hammer.... "THIRD CALL" "The 5 minute board is up" Screw it! The back tire doesn't get changed! I scramble to get my gear on... "4 min. board" I fire the bent Buell and head to the grid... "3 min. board" No hot lap for me! I go out the "Pit in" to my grid position... the green flag drops... WE ARE RACING NOW!!! Turn one.... pucker.... look at all those divot in the asphalt.... flash back!! Remember I have cold tires... crap back tire... SLOW.... a few laps into it I start to get some confidence back.. I am gaining on a pack of 3 riders..... BLACK FLAG!!! SH!T!!!! Into the pits... get checked out.... back on the track! I finished dead last.... But I will say it was one of the funniest races of the year!! Thanks to everyone who helped and a big thanks to Ben for helping with the bike and the Iron Butt race.... but thats another story.... |

777 LLL 777 LLL 777 LLL "I finished dead last...." The key word here is "finished" Almost as great as "started", especially after a crash and scramble like that!! Hopefully starting and finishing that race will feel good enough to make up for all those sore places you'll be finding for the next few days Way to go man!! |

Wolf, I am feeling you on the inline fun and gun in the straight, followed by sightseeing pace in the corners... I was off the track (kept it up) 3 times yesterday. All three times were while putting passes on inlines. 2 of the times were totally my mistake for not looking past the bike I was passing and 1 time the guy just kept getting wider in the turn with me alongside forcing me off the track... If it were easy, everyone would do it. |

The Iron Butt.... 3 solo hours of pure racing fury... SOOOO... after finishing the 30 min race its time to get ready for the 3 Hour Iron Butt Race. We change the rear tire and get the fairing replaced with a couple of screws and zip ties... CRAMPS!! in my hands... my fingers curl up and I can't get them to work.... GATORADE.... The 5 min. board comes up and I go out for my hot lap. Its all good until I downshift to take my spot on the grid. THE SHIFT LINKAGE BREAKS!! I stick my hand in the air and they send me to hot pit..... the race starts.... without me... Its a scramble back to the van to get the new linkage. Ben and I get started putting it on when.... CRAMPS!! My hands are KILLING ME! More gatorade. I finally get on the track 10 to 15 minutes after the race start.... about 30 min. into it I am passing some of the slow bikes, getting buzzed by the fast ones.... I gotta PEE!... HOLD IT.... I MUST PEE... HOLD IT.... CRAP! into the pits I go... run to the head.... RELIEF!! Gas up...more gatorade and back on the track... about 20 laps later I notice one of the screws in the fairing backing out... THINK... grab and toss it or do a stop and go into the pits... I decide to do the stop and go... back on the track... a few laps later... I GOTTA PISS AGAIN!! I play the same game of hold it until I can't think, Hit the pits for fuel and head call... grab a cookie and have some good laughs about the whole situation and head back out.... RED FLAG with 10 minutes to go.... the race is called.... and I end up in 3rd place out of 4. After crashing.... Racing the 30 min. Mini and all the crap that happened.. I'm pretty happy.... The 4th place Iron Butt rider crashed mid way into the race but I will take what I can get..... Next year Team NO will try again! Now to get the bike back together.... Anybody go a extra cheese grater?... fairing bracket?? (Message edited by wolfridgerider on October 06, 2008) |

Jimduncan69 has me covered for the cheese grater THANKS!! Hey Paint! Keep that thing on the track!! Sliding in the grass ain't no fun! I do think the Iron Butt Race will be the only one I run next year. 200 bucks for 3 hours of racing isn't that bad... and it makes for good stories.... |

"I am going to make some kind of Ram Air set up... should be good for 6% more ponies...." Talk to BudC at Hal's they have one already premade. Hand-laid fiberglass in two sections. Sorta looks like an XBRR ram system. |

That kind of race day is so exhausting, but it makes for great memories when you meet up with some of your racing buddies ten years from now. "Team No", how clever of you! |
