Hello Buell owners, I need your help. Which is a better more reliable bike, the XB12R or the 1125R? My friend Rob had the 2008 1125R, but decided to trade it in for another Harley. =) Anyway, he had some problems with his 08 and now that the 09s are out and they both come in the White and Blue, I’m not sure which to get. I want a bike that’s not going to cost me an arm and a leg to keep running. I have an F150 to put gas in for that. I want a bike that I can ride to work, take off and chill, and hit the corners without it crapping out on me. Also one that the maintenance isn't going to kill me. So any information that you can give me about the two bike, the differences between the years of the bikes and any issues anyone has had, it would be greatly appreciated.

Cali Time 4:54pm

The air-cooled motor in the XB12R is bulletproof -- made in USA -- parts are relatively cheap.

The 1125R has a Rotax-built (Austrian) motor that is much more complex (water-cooled, blah, blah, blah).

Speed? Gotta go with the 1125R.

Reliability and ease of maintenance? Easy, the XB12R.

And, oh, did I mention that it is still a MUCH more attractive bike than the 1125R?

PS: Love your color choice (white/blue). I drove all the way from ATL to Cleveland to buy my MINT 2003 XB9R -- and have NEVER had a single problem with it.

1125r wins in miles per hour and smiles per mile.

You need to go demo each bike (one reason to love Buell in the first place) and decide which one works best for you. Talk to the service department about what the different prices are for the scheduled maintenance on the bikes if you plan to have them dealer serviced.

Motorcycles are toys, get whichever one makes you happiest when you ride it. I said happiest because either one will make you happy.

I rode my friends 08 1125R and that thing has power and it responded quick as hell. =) Never been on an XB before. It was my first choice until they came out with the 09 White and Blue colors for the 1125, then my friend started having problems with his 08 1125R. That kind of got me to wondering. Talk has it that the 09 1125Rs are better, but as stated the XB12's Thunderstorm is a hot ticket.

Very tough choice..... I'd go with the white/blue 1125R. Only because I already own an XB....

Test ride them both.

Ok, got a Speed question about the XB12R. Since it has a bigger "cc" motor and more low end torque than the 1125R, how is it's acceleration and top speed? I know it has less horse power, but the torque has to make up for something.

If I were you I would go with the 1125R. The 1125R does the same things as my XB12R but better

That is an accurate statement.

Now I'm really confused. I put the same post on both the XB and the 1125 Forums and it seems as if the XB owners like the 1125 and the 1125 owners like the XB.

Hard choice. I envy you : )

If you want higher revs and more top speed (more than 135 mph) go with the 1125R.

If you like a 6800 (0r 7100 in the case of 08+) rev limit and a top speed of about 135 go with the 12R.

One thing to note is the 1125R's amazing fairing. I can not express into words just how impressed I was with the fairing's ability to keep the wind off me.
I rode my buddies 1125R in complete comfort in temps that would have had me running my grip heaters and heated vest on my 12S. My hands (which can freeze in summer) didn't even get cold.

It's simply an amazingly brilliant functional fairing.

Ok, it's looking like the 1125 as of now. =)

Metalstorm, has your buddy had many problems with his 1125?

Thanks everyone.

I prefer the airheads myself. But if I had the opportunity to keep my airhead fleet and get an 1125r I would.

+1 Bearracing... I went to the dealer to see the 1125R (got nauseated) and rode out on an '08 XB12R. The XB has been perfect, and I'm extremely pleased. The track I bought the XB for is quite tight and technical, and isn't conducive to high horsepower bikes. Figuring the XB's handling, size, and the fact that I don't need more than 100 rear wheel hp- the XB is the perfect answer for me.

i've been thinkin about the 1125 lately...but i'm just scared to death of the insurance! being a new bike i'd want full coverage...but i'm 20, full coverage on my used '05 12r was 5K! so i sucked it up and went w/ liability...so i dont even wanna know what a new 1125 would be!

Metalstorm, has your buddy had many problems with his 1125?

My buddie's 1125R had a plugged charcoal cannister (CA model) and a non working tank vent that caused fuel fumes and what appeared to be fuel boiling in the frame.

It was fixed under warranty and hasn't had any problems since.

I think he's bringing it in this week for the new ecm flash that will increase fuel mileage by 15-20% and make it ride even better.

ON EDIT: I forgot one other thing.
The clutch cover weeped a little oil. It was replaced under warranty and has been leak free since.
